This is a 1.9-mile single carriageway section which is sandwiched between existing dual carriageway sections to the east and west. A key feature of this route is the current junction with the A67 which is currently only accessible to traffic to and from the west. New westbound slip road to provide access to the new westbound A66 dual carriageway for local farms and properties to the south of the A66 in this location October – 24 October Northbound M18 traffic stay on the M1 to J33, take A630 onto the A631 to Junction 1 of the M18 (Bramley Interchange). We're installing a new equestrian crossing on the A616 near Underbank Reservoir. At the same time we will also make improvements to the pavement and signage nearby. We are replacing the safety barrier and carrying out bridge maintenance and localised resurfacing on both carriageways of the A1M between junction 56 (Barton) and junction 58 (Burtree) from Monday 6 February.

We’re continuing with our preparation work along the pipeline route, and we’ve arranged a short-term road closure in conjunction with Durham County Council on the B6274 north of Winston, immediately north of the A67, and to the east of Barnard Castle.

There is still a long way to go, with Phase 1 scheduled to see us working into 2025, and Phase 2 for a further three years after that, but this is a huge milestone.

Eastbound traffic approaching may not be aware that one lane at this junction is used for the A67 which reduces capacity and leads to last minute lane changes and slowing traffic on the A66 that present safety issues. Benefits We’ll soon be carrying out essential maintenance work on the A1(M), junction 36 southbound slip road. The work will started on Monday 3 July 2023 and will be carried out during the night between 8pm and 6am, working between Sunday and Friday nights. The project will be complete by winter 2023. During the overnight closures local signed diversions will be in place.Raise the new A66 as it passes through the cutting next to the Carkin Moor scheduled monument. This will help us better accommodate the retaining walls to the north and south of the new A66 and reduce any impact on the scheduled monument itself Resurfacing work will recycle the lowest layers of the carriageway which reduces the carbon impact and lay new material for the upper layers.
