With my original model, I would always have to pull the unit away from the wall when cleaning records to allow room for the record to sit on the platter. Cleaning a Very Dirty Used Record with the VC-E2 Size was not an issue for me. I have a nice space set up in my renovated Garage where I have cabinets that store all of my record cleaning supplies, my Spin Clean and my VC-S2 ALU. I have a large clean bamboo wood counter top that I put the VC-S2 ALU on to do all of my cleaning. The most I’ve cleaned in one session is about 24 albums and the reservoir is barely full of any fluid.

The magnetic clamp works well and does speed up the process as advertised while protecting the label just as well as the screw-down clamp. For this review, though, I was curious to see what would happen if I simply took the record straight from the record store and cleaned it up with the VC-E2.Please be advised that our machines include a record platter with a tapered screw hole on one side. That side is the top. The set-screw is meant to be threaded through that screw hole and tightened to the point where the screw’s head is flush with the platter’s surface (which also secures the platter to the spindle & bearing). Next, you affix the record cushion atop the platter (over the screw head) and away you go. Installing the platter incorrectly will result in uneven rotation of the platter! Dustcover Available (No Hinges!) The MK II couldn’t save all of our records because it can’t fix scratches, but it did a good job of reducing the amount of surface noise and pops from our records. Your experience will vary based on the general condition of your records, but expect some level of sound quality improvement on all of them. Again, if a record has physical scratches, especially deep ones that run across it from edge to edge, the Okki Nokki will not be able to fix that damage.

Put it this way, the plastic disc they supplied out of caution never gets used and instead sits in a container full of old record accessories that I no longer use.

One thing I can do is sample the run-in groove. So as a compromise demonstration, I sought out a cheap bargain basement type record that was caked in dust. So while the exhaust positioning of the VC-E might be a deal-breaker for some, I couldn’t replicate the issue under what I might conclude as normal everyday use. The VC-S2 ALU benefits from a large tank that rarely needs emptying unless you’re cleaning an absurd amount of vinyl. In commercial situations, though, you could be cleaning hundreds of records in one sitting, and that’s where a larger tank comes into its own. The Project VC-S2 ALU features an aluminium top surface, to withstand even excessive fluid spills without compromising the chassis. The record cleaner has a powerful cleaning action, and is able to clean your vinyl in just one or two rotations, with one forward and one reverse rotation achieving the best results. How I discovered this: A few months ago, I bought an ultrasonic machine (the Degritter). When I cleaned *some* records, the machine produced excessive foaming on the records. This problem seemed to occur randomly and I attributed it to the machine, at first. But after many hours of research and experimentation, I discovered that the problem only happened when I was cleaning a record that I’d previously cleaned using the Pro-Ject cleaning fluid. It didn’t matter whether I’d previously cleaned the record a month ago or years ago. But there was a 100% match between excessive foaming and whether the record had been cleaned with the Pro-Ject fluid.
