The ending was a bit of a surprise, and too rushed but definitely has me intrigued and happy to read on in the series. Even though I enjoyed this book, I wish that there was more development of the slow burn, but that is just me! I feel like there was too much rushing taking place - some of the more intriguing scenes didn't get the attention to detail they were deserving of. His ultimate hope is that readers grappling with similar issues may find solace in his stories, realizing that they're not alone, that it's okay to feel the way they do, and that it's important to open up and share.

This sequel follows two main characters: Zerina, a young woman who is on the run for possessing illegal magical abilities, and Ulrik, a sailor who must protect his young sister, Esara, after their mother is murdered for her magical powers. After long or stressful workdays, he found solace in unfolding his narratives, a therapeutic endeavor that helped him unwind and relax. From intricacies of plotting and scene-setting to character development, Beswick expanded his skill set as he poured his heart into the pages. I tried to give this second book a chance after listening to the first one but I found myself genuinely uninterested in finishing it. Also I feel the supporting characters of Darmour, Orjan and Navi could've been better off being introduced much earlier - I found them to be pretty interesting.Adding to that the plot kept me reading and the fantasy scenes (cough - skeletons, sea creatures etc) carried their share of clarity which is a big plus for me. It took me right out of the story when you have Arron doing one voice and then Michela doing a completely different voice for the same character, not even vaguely similar. Loved that is related to the first book even though it was a very different story and even had an overlapping character. When there was action it was good, and I am thankful that there wasn’t a ton of filler, but I also kinda of missed a little more exposition and settling into the story.

Again, my complaint of the book is that it too short and pretty much everything could be expanded on, events, the characters, world building. It was a smart choice on the author's part to focus on a totally different character within the world.I was a little sceptical at first as I knew it was set in the same realm but a completely different story. hour book 2 hours of which are inner monolog about being a strong woman, descriptions of people and places the characters never talk to or interact with. Instead, I get a man who tries to run his horse to death, almost lets his sister's saviour freeze to death and a ship that by all rights should have sunk the second they left the harbour.

P Beswick went full time as an author, he looks forward to sharing more of his enchanting tales with his readers. I'm also confused as to what sort of magical horse Beswick has invented that three people can ride on it, not be unseated by its 'bucks', and it's still capable of speed. My major complaint with the first was there were too many almost identical fight scenes, but this book was much better paced with the fighting and the enemies. The premise for this book was so promising, and I was really hoping for strong, powerful female characters. It seems like all of these books are just a mashup of all the different heroes and fairy tales mushed together and it's not as appealing as you might think.

While this makes for faster paced storytelling, I found the pacing of the book to become rather slow once the two character were united.Although the book offers excellent world building and interesting characters, the story lacks excitement and seems to drag on, with only a few captivating action scenes.
