Stanley, Rod (2006). "Saint Etienne: Foxbase Alpha". In Dimery, Robert (ed.). 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Universe Publishing. p. 668. ISBN 978-0-7893-1371-3. Though I have to say, even as a non-native english speaker I did find some typos, but meh, who cares. DNF at 36%. There was nothing really wrong with this book, I think it would work well as a film starring a young Miley Cyrus or Amanda Byrne but it was maybe a bit too Cool Britannia, too NA, too predictable for my tastes. How relatable the main character, Alex is. She is a reader, a fangirl, an Anglophile, and struggles with anxiety and self-doubt--all things that I can relate to.

Lynskey, Dorian (17 May 2009). "Pop review: St Etienne, Foxbase Alpha: Deluxe Edition". The Observer . Retrieved 22 February 2017. I hear Mrs Bood’s god”, he said slowly, “Stebbed oud on us. I doad wonder. Berhaps it’s juzzazwell. Berhabs it god too budge for her. Couldn’t stand the straid. Gave me the greeps she did. Good bording.” But a simple book, with many simple pleasures, all flying through the breach of that non-existent moment between the Everyday and the Everyday At War. What it has going for it is that it rings true. But Alex is not the only great character in the novel. I'm still in awe how the author managed to create the side characters just perfectly. Their depth is truly fantastic and makes it possible to understand each of their motives, even of Olivia, our main antagonist. This piece - an interlaced triptych - cheerfully flips manslaughter for flippancy, duping for clemency… whilst saying something about human frailty and decency along the way. In key respects…I loved how this book does not focus much on the romance, as it was my first new adult book, my main concern was getting a cheesy lovestory and nothing else, but this was not the case. It had so many important topics which came before the love story - for example friendship. Alex is a person who has been disappointed a lot by other people, which leads to her thinking that she has to sort out all od her shit on her own. How she finds her best friends and realizes that she is not alone and can actually rely on ther people was really touching. This was another author I was unaware of and probably would have remained so but for Christopher Fowler's Book of Forgotten Authors. Not only did I really enjoy the book but I was also interested to find out about the author - made Controller of Television at the BBC in 1947, his three-year reign saw TV licence numbers rise from 31000 to 656000. He then left the BBC and was instrumental in setting up the new Independent Television Network, which broke the BBC's monopoly. Norman Collins (1907-1982) was a British writer, and later a radio and television executive, who was responsible for creating Woman's Hour on BBC Radio 4, and became one of the major figures behind the establishment of the Independent Television (ITV) network in the UK. In all Norman Collins wrote 16 novels and two plays, including London Belongs to Me (1945), The Governor's Lady (1968) and The Husband's Story (1978).

In the crumbling but imposing building with a wooden notice board outside announcing The South London Spiritualist Movement, she conversed with Aztec princesses and Egyptian priests and Red Indian chiefs. Conversed while the medium groaned and panted, and the table bounced about and shifted itself and luminous tambourines and trumpets drifted over her head, and the odor of violets filled the air and cold winds blew. It was all momentous and terrifying, and somewhere amid the hubbub and the confusion Mrs. Vizzard waited patiently for Mr. Vizzard's voice to come through. After fourteen years she was still waiting." The adventures and beautiful descriptions being provided by Jacquelyn are just so beyond beautiful! This is a short review so I can get my hands on London, Can You Wait? as soon as possible. Talking all seriousness though this novel had me on my toes and had me very aware of the little details surrounding each word. I am so glad I got to read it for sure!

Rate And Review

Jacquelyn's books have been featured by The Hollywood Reporter, NBC News, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Daily News, USA Today, Cosmo, Redbook, the Huffington Post, and Entertainment Weekly. Collins took on the role of Deputy Chairman of ATV, but was effectively sidelined by the force of personality of the company's other senior directors, Prince Littler and Lew Grade.

This book has me officially wanting to go to London once again and noticing the things I never did...I was able to take some time from the daily hours of studying to read this one. Great decision. It's terrible how much time I can lose from reading just because of uni. Hopefully I'll be able to read the sequel soon enough, because I can't wait to read more about this characters. War moves from rumour to reality and we have the blitz spirit documented. This is wonderful stuff. As are the misunderstanding that happen between characters and scenarios that almist always seem to come with a happy ending.
