Description

The Prescribing Safety Assessment (PSA) is delivered through an equal partnership between two organisations: the British Pharmacological Society and MSC Assessment.

Alternatively, you can use a paper copy in the exam if you wish, but this must contain the most up-to-date prescribing advice, as this is what you’ll be assessed against. In this section, there is less emphasis on the BNF and more on your clinical reasoning skills that can be applied to the question. This will include the stem that gives the ‘CLINICAL PRESENTATION’, which is followed by the ‘LEAD-IN’ that refers to the actual question being asked. Having a good foundation about common drug interactions and side-effects will really help you speed through this section. Once you are registered for an exam date, you’ll be given access to three PSA practice papers to facilitate your preparation for the exam. You will have access to practice papers once you activate your PSA account ahead of the exam and at Pulsenotes we have > 100 practice questions and hours of online lectures to get you up to speed and ready for the exam! Among the 5 choices of answers, there may be more than one with correct information, but only one contains the information that is most appropriate to tell the patient. Our PSA question bank has been designed to support your PSA preparation and help you learn the common drugs and conditions which appear in the PSA.

The Prescribing Safety Assessment, MasterPass Student Success in the Prescribing Safety Assessment, Oxford Handbook of Clinical Medicine (10th Edition), Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties (10th Edition) and the textbooks for the specialties. The main section of the tutorial is a practice exam, with personalised feedback and interactive learning exercises after each question. For each question, there will be a clinical case and you will be given one of the following: once-only medicines prescription chart, regular medicines prescription chart, general practice prescription form or hospital fluid prescription chart. Note that the questions in the MasterPass Student Success in the Prescribing Safety Assessment book are not well aligned with the PSA format, but it's still useful to do them as a practice. In addition:• Introduces a simple, memorable and failsafe approach to prescribing (the ‘PReSCRIBER’ mnemonic). Each question in this section will consist of a scenario where a patient is being prescribed a particular drug and you will be asked to decide on what information should be communicated to the patient. However, there are still certain facts that are difficult to be studied by understanding as they have no possible explanation at all. You will be asked to choose an appropriate drug or intravenous fluid with its corresponding dose, route, and frequency.

There were many questions which I wouldn’t have answered correctly had I not known how to navigate Medicines Complete, so I do think a keen awareness of this resource is pivotal for passing the PSA. When identifying drugs that are causing an adverse effect, you may sometimes find that the number of drugs that could be causing the effect is greater than the number of drugs that the question is asking for. For example, if a question asks about asthma management, a topic snippet covering asthma management will be displayed.g. if you want to view a specific Prescription Review question which is not included in your test, select one of the included Prescription Review questions using the Select a Question menu, then use the refresh button).
