Personally I think these groups popping up all over the country has massively improved the atmosphere at most grounds. We need to do something to help the atmosphere, and fans having to move at away games is a problem all clubs will have. can even just help to get folk clapping along for those (of who there are many home and away) to contribute to the noise levels somehow.

These fans travel home and away, armed with drums, banners, snoods, and, sometimes, with smoke canisters and flares. But even before a ball was kicked, rumours swept McDiarmid Park’s East Stand that the board of St Johnstone FC had fallen out of love with Fair City Unity, the club’s young ultras.

Motherwell manager Steven Hammell expects cinch Premiership newcomers Kilmarnock to put up a tough test for his side to overcome.

Trying so hard to emulate European ultras, bless their cotton socks," a Tottenham fan wrote, before another added: "I find this lot so funny because they’ve only turned up when they were top of the league. Celtic had two years of wrangling with the Green Brigade, and Motherwell’s ultra-team, The Bois, had their moments of tension too. Where they are at the moment is crap because when they start a song nobody around them joins in and it rarely takes off. When Jake Carroll broke down in training and it was confirmed he was going to miss a significant portion of the season, and with Nathan McGinley still recovering from his operation, we knew we were going to have to bring someone in.

Until then the Steelmen were comfortable in possession and threatened to extend their lead, although Killie were guilty of passing up a glut of chances. I think the snare the Ultras had worked well, they used it properly unlike some idiots that mindlessly bang it all the way through the match. Two minutes later it was almost a carbon copy as Spittal’s low pass again sent both van Veen and Mayo racing towards the home goal but this time the defender guided the ball safely back to his ‘keeper. He had a song in no time because of it and beating Rangers twice at Tynecastle in a short space of time was quite something. After a win and a narrow defeat during his interim reign, Hammell among 75 other candidates, applied for the vacant manager’s role to where he was shortlisted and interviewed. Within minutes of the restart, Killie fans thought their side had found the equaliser but Danny Armstrong’s fierce drive from the edge of the box flashed past Kelly’s right hand post. The ban on drink at football was not the fault of today’s ultras but their forefathers, who brought shame even to showpiece events.

Having to listen to that for the entire game last night, with the same boring chant, was akin to torture. agree - the drums really helped the atmosphere and I'd rather have them than rely on someone trying to start off a song spontaneously. The annoying thing with that though is that at some grounds there are empty stands and swathes of empty seats which are all in areas where there would be no trouble if they were used. The violence was more targeted, often away from the grounds and the supporters’ buses, but no less sudden and chaotic as battles – some planned and others sporadic – erupted at railway stations and in city centres. Been hearing this claim for years but nobody has ever been able to orchestrate an atmosphere without a regular drumbeat.I don't think that they add anything positive, but their attempts at 'singing' bothers me not although I just wish that the mind numbing tedium of the constant drum beat was got rid of. This under 16s rule (whatever it is about) is certainly not helping matters and I do think it’s about time the club made a clear statement in the public domain that they want all ages and groups of supporters to get themselves to Holker St, as long as they behave in a reasonable manner! Two of the club’s players – Danny Swanson and Richard Foster – set about each other on the pitch, grabbing headlines bigger and bolder than any low-level skirmish among fans. This season, some Arsenal fan groups have combined forces to create a European style band of ‘ultras’. We should have moved well before that but it was quite enjoyable till that point, but we learned - stay away from the drum would be me advice, don't expect to be guaranteed your seat (ER for example, if you are lower tier behind the goal then you will be in a bit of an atmosphere, and there will be plenty seats to move to).
