When she starts to find connections between her stalker and a local serial killer caught six years ago, she wonders if maybe the wrong man is behind bars. Either way, I applaud the author for covering some difficult topics, and respect her decision to finish out this series in the way she envisioned it. I don’t read this genre much, and since I haven’t read the first two books I went ahead and read the spoilers. If she had his best interests in heart she would know that he deserved someone else and it would also add some character development because she would be SELF AWARE. As always, Pip is completely focused on the task at hand, even to the detriment of some of her relationships.

She needs to dig as deep as she can and she has to be more obsessive with this case of hers, not to just save herself from disappearing in real life. The first thing that happened and the last thing that happened, the same thing- but in a different light. Was it some statistics thing, like ‘one out of six serial killer’s victims is more likely to survive than others’? Yes, the character whom she tries to frame is a sleaze and not an innocent person in any meaningful way, but they were not guilty of this murder. I actually was rooting for DI Hawkings to find out the truth and even was excited for a sec when he found out about the headphones!Pip I can somewhat rationalize, as we can see how deeply she’s been affected by her previous experiences and how unhinged she has become.

As we cross the ¼ mark in the novel, I was excited to see where this was going to go but after how dark the second book got, I am not sure what direction Jackson is going to take this in. I was nervous about the book when she was sympathetic and pining for a conversation with the man who murdered someone in front of her, and caused the ptsd trauma she loudly suffered from. I don’t know about you, but I would rather have that police chief think I’m paranoid than try to sleep at night knowing a killer is watching my house. One of the main reasons I escape into books is to take comfort in strong characters who can kick ass again and again, rising from the ashes no matter what happens to them. Looks like Pip is going to have to handle this herself, and when she notices similarities with a closed case of a serial killer, things go from bad to worse.

The framing was ridiculous, with the changing of the Rigor and Livor Mortis with a car air con and miraculously removing all of Pip’s DNA from the crime scene.bestselling YA crime thriller and WINNER of The British Book Awards' Children's Book of the Year 2020.

It would be better if she had support but she has lied to everyone and made them believe she is getting better when the opposite is true. How is it that after committing rape and a number of murders the DT Killer was easily deveated by AN 18 YEAR OLD?And Pippa – when kidnapped – actually considers that question and answers it – her parents, her brother, Ravi, her friends, Cara and Ward, Connor and Jamie Reynolds, Nat da Silva … She has a not insignificant number of people to whom she can turn and she doesn’t. There’s so much I have to hide from him, because he’s one of the only good things I have left, and he has to be protected. And when the conviction went in his favor, it killed all the beliefs of Pippa in the judiciary system. i always enjoyed holly jackson’s writing style bc of how simple it was and how easy it is to follow.
