Jude takes Callie Rose to Kamal's house. After Kamal denies that she is his granddaughter, Jude, now the General of the LM, exploits her anger to groom her to become a suicide bomber. Jasmine attempts to bring Callie and Sephy closer together, but develops breast cancer and struggles with her mortality. Eventually, Jasmine traps Sephy and Callie Rose in her wine cellar where the two reconcile. Nathan Ealing: The owner of a restaurant at which Sephy sings. They realise that they have feelings for each other and get married, having a son named Troy. Rich in moral and social issues, it is devastating about racial attitudes' THE SUNDAY TIMES, CHILDREN'S BOOK OF THE WEEK During the party, Tobey has sex with a woman named Misty, who becomes pregnant and gives birth to Tobey's daughter Libby. He attempts to have a relationship with her for their child's sake, but it falls apart.

Sephy then begins to experience strange symptoms, and takes a pregnancy test, revealing that she is pregnant with Callum's child. When her parents learn of this, they pressure her to have an abortion, which Sephy repeatedly refuses. Meanwhile, Callum is working as a mechanic as a cover, and hears Kamal on the radio being interrogated over whether his daughter is pregnant. Callum then meets up with Sephy in the Hadleys' rose garden, and she confirms the rumors. While they're meeting, they are discovered and Callum is arrested. Nobody believed Sephy when she maintains she was not raped, and Callum is sentenced to be hanged. As I am, and always will be a Nought, how the hell can I compare it to being anything else… I really couldn’t remember any Cross political candidate being asked how it felt to be a Cross doing the same job… That was just taken as the default position. It was as if the rest of us who were WAME – white and mixed-ethnic – were aberrations… Crosses were one group and everyone else got lumped into the WAME category like we were all one, big, homogenous mass and not worthy of distinct categorization.” The two meet again in Heathcroft, a high school for Crosses that now accepts the best-performing Noughts. Sephy is overjoyed to see Callum in her class, but most of her classmates do not accept her association with a Nought. Despite this, she deepens her relationship with Callum, and even sits at a table with Noughts, upsetting Callum, though they eventually make up. Crossfire is searing, political and furious. Malorie's world building is sublime and the way the Noughts & Crosses series holds a mirror up to society is unrivalled' JUNO DAWSON Celebrities' open letter to Scotland – full text and list of signatories". The Guardian. 7 August 2014 . Retrieved 26 August 2014.Persephone "Sephy" Hadley is a Cross and the daughter of a wealthy senior politician, Kamal Hadley, who later becomes Prime Minister. Callum McGregor is a Nought, and they used to play together when Jasmine Adeyebe-Hadley, Sephy's mother, employed Meggie McGregor, Callum's mother, as a nanny. Ever since Jasmine fired Meggie, however, Sephy and Callum's friendship has been secret, as such interracial friendships are frowned upon by society.

I tore through Crossfire in a few hours. Although many characters from the previous novels play prominent roles, such as Callie Rose, Tobey and Sephy, this novel focuses on a third generation of characters, with the introduction of Troy and Libby, making this very readable to those who either know nothing of the series or have simply forgotten key details, like myself. Endgame, the breathtaking conclusion to the series, influenced by the unprecedented global events of recent years, is full of twists and turns. She is also a writer whose own life has been shaped by books, from her childhood in south London, the daughter of parents who moved to Britain from Barbados as part of the Windrush Generation, and who experienced a childhood that was both wonderful and marred by the everyday racism and bigotry of the era. She was told she could not apply to study her first love, literature, at university, in spite of her academic potential, but found a way to books and to a life in writing against a number of obstacles. Accused of a murder he insists he did not commit, Tobey asks his teenage sweetheart Callie-Rose to defend him. The two have a complicated history and, it transpires, an even more complicated – and dangerous – present, and they take it in turns to tell their side of a highly dramatic story.

Minerva "Minnie" Hadley: Sephy's older sister; she and Sephy are not very close, as Minnie is often shown to be quite selfish. She marries an affluent Cross, Zuri, and they have a son, Taj. Rich in moral and social issues, it is devastating about racial attitudes The Sunday Times, Children's Book of the Week

I found myself not liking many of the characters. Troy came off as spoilt, selfish and mean for the first half of the book. Tobey was manipulative and rude to Callie for most of the book, except when he wanted to have sex with her. Callie seemed stubborn and had a disregard for her own safety and her family's safety for most of the book and refuses to do the only thing that would help her situation. The Nought and Crosses saga (which I think we can totally go there now with three generations of both) is one of those stories that has all of the above and more. Overall, if you loved the Noughts and Crosses series, like me, and you really want to read it, go for it; however, if you've just stubbled across it, I recommend all the books that came before it in the series far more than this. Crossfire could definitely go amiss if you're not as in love with the series as me and other fans.Jarvis Burton: Dan's second-in-command, who, after his death, wages civil war on Eva, before replacing her as leader of the Outfit. Meggie McGregor: Supporting character in all books. Callum's mother, who had been Sephy's nanny until Jasmine fired her. She convinces Sephy to move in with her and is very close to Callie Rose. However, a threat to call social services about Callie Rose estranges Sephy from her.
