The trail to the Mesa Arch Start of the Mesa Arch sunrise Make sure to place your camera steadily The sunrise picture! How does a cereal called "Waffle Crisp" sound? Pretty unhealthy, right? What about "Good MOREnings?" Better? Not really. They're essentially the same thing—same ingredient list, nearly identical nutrition information—just one is rebranded to make it appear healthier. It's not. This cereal is one of the few remaining boxes that contain artery-clogging trans fat, partially hydrogenated soybean oil. Cinnamon Chex Be late. I was about the 6th or 7th person to arrive at Mesa Arch, by the time I left and the sun had completely risen, there were about five times as much visitors. Most of them were too late. Too bad for them. Some even asked me if they could have some of my pictures. It goes without saying that it’s forbidden to walk on the arch. It’s an incredible natural wonder so lets keep it that way and stay off it! 11 | Try to stay present and enjoy the view Plan ahead to capture the best sunrise shots of Mesa Arch: 1 | Get to Mesa Arch early (really early!)

Per 1 cup: 210 calories, 1 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 47 g carbs (2 g fiber, 12 g sugar), 3 g protein Post Raisin Bran Mesa Arch is located in Canyonlands National Park in an area known as Island in the Sky. The Canyonlands Park Entrance is located around 40 minutes drive from Moab, with the Mesa Arch trailhead parking lot a further 10 minutes drive into the park. The parking lot at the trailhead has space for around 35 to 40 cars. Allow for drive time and hike time: remember to allow around 45 minutes to drive from Moab and another 15 minutes to get to the arch from the parking lot.Per 1 cup: 120 calories, 1.5 g fat (0.5 g saturated fat), 280 mg sodium, 31 g carbs (5 g fiber, 8 g sugar), 3 g protein

If it weren't for the seven different types of sweeteners added to this cereal, sugar would be the first item found on the ingredient list. If you want to nourish your system, try doing so without ingesting highly processed foods like soy protein isolate, modified corn starch, acacia gum, and the potentially carcinogen-containing preservative, BHT. Quaker Oatmeal Squares Golden Maple Because it touts its 18 grams of whole grains on the front of the box, alongside words like "multigrain" and "plant foods," you might initially think Life cereal was a safe choice—until, that is, you read the ingredient list. There you'll see that the cereal pieces aren't even made of whole grains, but a medley of flours (most of which, are in lesser quantities to the sugar that's added). On top of that, Quaker also adds oil-derived artificial colors, Yellow 5 and 6. Quaker Real Medleys Cherry Almond Pecan Multigrain Cereal Per 1 cup: 190 calories, 1 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 230 mg sodium, 47 g carbs (8 g fiber, 19 g sugar), 5 g protein The certified-organic ingredients inside our flakes have been grown in harmony with nature, reducing exposure to toxic synthetic chemicals and GMOs. It's the positive choice for our bodies and for our planet.Per 1 cup: 160 calories, 2 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 200 mg sodium, 33 g carbs (3 g fiber, 11 g sugar), 4 g protein Summer: it’s usually even busier in summer so, if you want to grab one of the most coveted spots you’ll need to plan to get there at least 2 or 3 hours in advance. By then you have arrived at Mesa Arch and if you haven’t been to this spot before to explore it a bit, you will have no clue what’s in the dark. Once the sun starts rising and the world starts lighting up, you will experience the grandeur of the vistas opening up behind Mesa Arch. Sunrise at Mesa Arch is just pure magic! Oh and there’s one bonus piece of advice: enjoy it! Don’t watch the sunrise at Mesa Arch just through your lens but also take the time to really enjoy it. You won’t be sorry, this is a moment that will last in your memory forever!

Don’t just watch the sunrise through your lens. Be present and enjoy the sunrise as much as the photography experience. Go to the Moab Visitors Center to inquire about sunrise time. The people behind the counter will most likely discourage you to drive all the way to Canyonlands to see the sunrise at Mesa Arch when you’re there in spring or summer. According to the gentleman I spoke to “I would never get the pictures I was looking for because the sun wasn’t high enough for that, rather go to Dead Horse State Park instead.” Don’t believe them, I’ve heard of people listening to this and they missed out on what I think was my prettiest sunrise ever. Stand in front of any of the “professional” photographers. They will get really annoyed because unlike you, they have been waiting for this moment for their whole lives and they actually know that they just get one shot to capture that one moment they have been dreaming for ever since they were born. I would get annoyed if I were them, too. Don't let their high fiber and protein counts fool you. These oatmeal squares are full of bad-for-you ingredients yellow 5 and 6 as well as caramel color—a chemically-derived additive which commonly contains an artificial form of phosphorous that's been shown to leach calcium from our bones. (Oh and P.S., the "Honey Nut" Oatmeal Squares flavor has no actual honey listed anywhere on the ingredient list.) Special K Fruit & Yogurt When grabbing a box off the shelf, make a point of steering clear of the three C's: crunch, crisps, and clusters. This trio is typically code for clumps of rice held together by sugar and fat, like in these Honey (aka corn syrup and caramel color) Bunches of Oats. Kashi Heart To Heart Oat Flakes & Blueberry ClustersFollowing a gluten- or dairy-free diet doesn't mean you have to compromise on taste. Not only is Mesa Sunrise fully certified by Coeliac UK and The Vegan Society, it's full of flavour and irresistibly crispy too.

Wake up early! It’s about a 45-60 minute drive to Mesa Arch parking lot from Moab and from there another 15 minute walk to the arch. In my case the sun would rise just before 06.00 am, which meant I got up at 03.30, took off at 04.00 and got to Mesa Arch at about 05.00 am. I wanted to be sure I was in time as it would be a once in a lifetime for me. Camera and Lens: I used a Sony 16-35mm lens on a Sony A7rII to shoot the sunrise at Mesa Arch. While the 16mm wide angle lens was fine, a wider (i.e. a 12mm or 14mm lens) would give more flexibility when capturing the vista with the entire arch in frame. A photographer beside me on the day had a 12mm ultra wide and the photos were incredible.
