It has genuinely helpful advice from the perspective of someone with adhd and someone living with someone with adhd. I personally think the ‘everyone’s a bit autistic’ type of language diminishes the issues people living with actual neurodiversity face.

This is the story of one person's experience only and the 'funny' stories cannot be applied to anyone else. Do you always feel misunderstood by the people close to you and find that they get frustrated by your behaviour? It’s really opened my eyes to parts of my life that I thought where just me being useless but apparently I’m not, it’s part of my adhd. I've got more for free from 20 minute YouTube videos than I did by spending 4 hours and an audible credit on this lightweight rubbish.

More recently it’s been language over physical and mental disabilities, and even the use of the word disability to describe deafness and ADHD. We have definitely spent years arguing about chores, dinner, being organised, etc and honestly seeing that it is the same for other couples is a relief. Those things came with the hashi brain fog and it was like the brakes went on and rather than a wide gate with 5 things trying to go thru at once, my gate got small and those 5 things all are squeezing in at the same time so none of them are getting thru. Being agile and publishing books not just about but also by people from underserved communities is crucial to Square Peg.

They both have beautiful voices; I could listen to Richard's voice all day, and in that way, it does help my anxiety. Every chapter starts with a common symptom of ADHD, like impulsivity or struggles with finances, and an earnest moment from their own lives to show you how they navigate the symptom together. And although that is cool to see, would have loved to see more vulnerability on Rich's side and maybe more ways in which being in this relationship improved HIS life and what Rox is teaching him. This book approaches ADHD in a frank and completely transparent way, showing the absolute worst parts of ADHD that people who live with the condition are often so ashamed to acknowledge, never mind admit to.The neurodivergent people I know are really connected to themselves and those around them, so when one of them starts crying, I genuinely wonder where I’ve gone wrong. You can have swollen ankles, a bad back and piles without being ‘on the pregnancy spectrum / a little bit pregnant’ – showing you can share symptoms with something without actually having the diagnosis.

Luckily the lady’s patience and good nature extended to another flight the next day, which Rox managed to make. This is the book equivalent of "oh silly you, have you tried using a calendar so you're not late/miss appointments? Learn how to: • Stop believing you are fundamentally broken • Stop judging yourself by the standards of a neurotypical world • Communicate your struggles to those who love you • Support someone with ADHD in ways that work for them • Be compassionate rather than judgemental .

The book could literally be cut in half, and it would make no difference apart from making it a shorter amd slightly more enjoyable read. While I could not care less about the authors their lives and whatever works for them is fine by me, but the way this book portrays ADHD is simply not true. These are moments that won’t ever be shared on the internet because I was genuinely struggling to stay alive.
