That is 30 years of vinyl sales, guess an average 10,000 copies each year would mean total 300,000 vintage copies on vinyl.

To explain, I’m going to repeat some of what I already mentioned in a previous section, but bear with me as I think it’s worth repeating (not least because the aforementioned pros had to repeat it to me a good few times before I finally relinquished my long-cherished position on the matter! Hi Steve, I’ve now taken a more systematic look at the font and title setting associated with matrix codes – at the time of writing it was an afterthought and an “impression” which wasn’t as accurate as I now find. Unquestionably the most popular and celebrated album in the history of jazz, 'Kind of Blue', released in 1959, stands out as one of the essential recordings in Miles Davis' discography. Francis Davis (who wrote an entirely different 4,000-word liner notes essay for the box set), places the album in historic perspective: “Beyond jazz, Kind of Blue‘s long-term influence has been enormous. But I’ll just say the following, so you know what my points of reference are… I previously talked about the Analogue Productions UHQR vinyl issues on my YouTube Channel which, if you’re interested, you can check out below. Other people have covered all the human interest stuff, the history, the musicians, the music, and the record engineering side, all the really important things. I found only about a hundred with good stamper information and photos of both labels, 50 mono, 50 stereo. I didn’t find that combination among any of the promos I could get information on, but the presence of 1D is certainly associated with promos, which is a good sign, and my sample was limited to those copes in auction that made mention of the matrix codes.

Then again I don’t have perfect pitch so the ¼ semi-tone or whatever it was supposed to be off doesn’t register with me, but the corrected version just loses something of its impetus. It is also quite long and in depth, be prepared, I suggest preparing a packed lunch for the journey. Had it been other plants, big names like Capitol, contract pressings, there would be other indicators, etchings, die groove variations, of which there are none.Long held as the jazz album that even non-jazz fans might own, ‘Kind Of Blue’ changed the way Jazz was perceived. As the original working title for Bitches Brew, the instruction and invitation resonates to this day as the best way to approach a record that shattered conventions, altered music history, and, more than 50 years later, still sounds far ahead of its time. Knowing that Columbia had several lacquers cut at the same time for different presses, isn’t it possible they cut at least 12 or more different lacquers in a row and went up straight to 1AA/1AA or even further up the latter before sending them out to the plants?

Well, apart from the obvious legal issues (and the fact that big guns like Sony / Columbia tend to come down on perpetrators like a ton of bricks), the key issue for me is quality. I have two copies of Miles Davis – Kind of Blues Lp’s but don’t know how old they are, here are the numbers on both Lp’s if anyone can help me date them. Benny Golson, who came to the attention of the jazz public with Tadd Dameron's band and Dizzy Gillespie's orchestra, was a member of the Jazztet — the group he had formed with Art Farmer — at the time of this recording. All-in-all this edition of Kind of Blue meets the highest audiophile standards and offers the truest sound for the most enjoyment.D) – Concert of Saturday, April 9, 1960: MD, CA, JC, WK, PC, JCB (at the Kurhaus, Den Haag, Holland). It opens with the effortlessly cool track ‘So What’ and had a big influence across pop and rock artists through the 1960s and 1970s. Columbia/Legacy say they are currently selling around 20,000 a year on vinyl, as part of the “vinyl revival – the record everyone should own”. We've graced this first-time-ever 2LP edition of this musical masterpiece with a gatefold sleeve with additional liner notes.
