Description

During a decade spent reporting from around the world Lewis lived in deserts, rainforests, jungles and chaotic third world cities. Both strong headed men were willing to put themselves in the line of fire, more often leading from the front than from behind, and Mayne especially would do anything to not leave a man behind. Directed by Guy Ritchie, based on the 2015 book by Damien Lewis and inspired by true events, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare details the World War II strategies conceived by United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston Churchill and James Bond creator and author Ian Fleming, whose clandestine squad’s unconventional and entirely ‘ungentlemanly’ fighting techniques against the Nazis helped change the course of the war and in part gave birth to the modern Black Ops unit. amien Lewis's new bestseller tells the action-packed, riveting story of the band of mavericks and visionaries who made the SAS.

Led by Captain Patrick Garstin MC, a man supposedly invalided out of the military due to his war injuries, rarely had a wilder bunch of raiders been assembled. What also comes through is how deeply the loss of each man scarred Mayne, how he felt like it was his responsibility to make the right decision for each person under his command, and how he could not let go of each loss. Highly recommended and for those that follow the history of this era, one that must be kept on the shelves for future generations to read. Yet again Damien Lewis brings to life the hardships, dedication and bravery of men at the forefront of WWII. At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. Am not sure about all the negative things said about this seller by other people,,, because my experience was completely different, totally positive.

Dropped hundreds of kilometres behind enemy lines, they were tasked with wreaking havoc and bloody mayhem, ensuring that Hitler's do-or-die stand would fail. In conversation with SAS veteran Des Powell, Damien Lewis will reveal the action-packed story of the band of mavericks and visionaries who made the SAS. The frankly astonishing raids that they entered into are brought tremendously to life and are described in such ways and in such detail that you feel you could be sitting in one of the jeeps in North Africa as they blazed up and down the dunes.

At its vanguard went a few hundred elite forces soldiers, the Royal Navy warship carrying them bearing the iconic winged dagger emblem on its prow, plus the motto ‘Who Dares Wins’. Judy’s unique combination of courage, kindness and fun repaid that honour a thousand times over and her incredible story is one of the most heartwarming and inspiring tales you will ever read. Lewis's book has extensive and detailed ops coverage from the doomed Exporter and weather-ravaged Squatter to Tamet/Paddy's Own and Sirte, across Libya and Egypt, even to Jack Byrne and Charles Bonington reuniting at Stalag Luft III. Now doesn't that sound exactly like what would appeal to a rambunctious, piratical, enigmatic, shy yet impertinent loose cannon like Robert Blair Mayne?

A good yarn, based on the sources and for once accurately and evenly told (looking at you SAS Rogue Heroes). I have read extensively on the formation of the SAS and so thought that there would be little more to discover but I was wrong. Mayne was a grammar schoolboy and rugby international, an instinctive doer who made Stirling’s ideas happen. Following the BBC's recreation of the story and the characters involved in SAS ROGUE HEROES, the author now tells us what really happened.Mayne had to be ruthless to survive and there is little doubt that his experiences in the Commandos, before he was recruited by Stirling, changed him. SAS Ghost Patrol is the explosive true story of the day in 1942 when the SAS donned Nazi uniforms to perpetrate the most audacious and daring mission of the war. Comprised of some of the finest fighting units in the entire British Army, these warriors longed to leave behind their mind-numbing garrison duties for battle.
