Description
They are quite large. I feel that they are not quite suitable as ‘desktop’ speakers. The massive size and sound quality make them more suitable for living rooms or someplace where you are at least a few meters away from them. As you’ll notice, there’s no HDMI port – so make sure your TV has an Optical port if you plan to connect it to the speakers. No HDMI also means no ARC – so you can’t have your TV’s remote turn the speakers on and off along with the TV.
There is outstanding clarity across the mid-range at all volume levels. Mid-range tones are smoothly integrated with the bass output and do not come across as conflicted or veiled. This is what gives S3000Pro an edge over other speakers in this range. Right from the off you’re in good hands with the Edifier S2000MKIII’s performance. This speaker is a poised and articulate performer that’s revealing in terms of mid-range detail. For the sound test, I mainly listened in my small home office so didn’t really experience that bass port chuffing. It’s a metric I’ll keep an ear on in future sound tests. I must admit, I didn’t quite get to the 50 hour burn in time! These were only loan units so I had minimal time to get to grips with them. The Edifier S2000MKIII is quite big when you consider that it is meant to be a bookshelf speaker. It is huge and also heavy. But it has a very nice finish made of wood panel. It also has a rear bass port.
The design of the speakers indicates they are well-built and also quite stylish they have a dark mahogany look on the sides that gives the speakers that 80s Hi-Fi look that reminded me of the sound system we had growing up. You can tell the speakers are built to last. The tweeters produce crystal clear highs, but are not overly bright or piercing. There is no detectable sibilance, leaving vocal highs clear and balanced. Although the tweeter does not dominate the mid-range but is well integrated to provide some zing in the highs. On the whole, I feel that the drivers of the system are well-blended. The Verdict:It carries on the new Hi-Fi modelling of S3000 with increased volume of deep-base notes. The full-digital display interaction is more natural and the new remote control is more stylish. S200MKIII is a remarkable pair of speakers that deliver a neutral approach that is precise, detailed, and clear. They do offer a degree of versatility and are a decent alternative to soundbar for TV. I feel they are tailored more towards home studios or desktops.
The degree of versatility they offer is welcome, making them a decent alternative to a soundbar for a TV and the Hi-res audio support and stylish build quality makes them a pleasure to listen to and look at. You shouldn’t buy the Edifier S2000MKIII Active speakers if… Bass could arguably have more depth – a Tidal Master play of Ludwig Göransson’s TENET exhibited tight and cleanly delivered bass, but it did feel reined in. The Edifier S2000MKIII’s are quite hefty and take up quite a bit of space. But, if you can accommodate their size you’ll be pleasantly surprised by just how good these are. How good? Read on to find out!
The bottom of both speakers has some nice gold coated feet that keeps the speakers clear of anything that could damage the speakers or scratch the beautiful finish. On my list of today’s comparisons is “ Edifier S2000MKIII vs S3000Pro”. Edifier has been around in the audio niche for quite some time now and their game is getting really strong. They have introduced some high-quality, budget speakers one after another. Appearance: S2000MKIII:
