Although this post isn’t a Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN C vs Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 R WR comparison, below is a table to compare the two to make a better-informed choice about which lens is suitable for you, should you be considering the Fujifilm lens. Lens Feature The lens benefits from an open aperture of F1.4 to achieve sufficient amount of bokeh and admirable brightness even with APS-C size cameras which tend to have smaller bokeh effects compared to 35mm full size systems. Its compact and lightweight body is perfect for daily use, capable of capturing various scenes ranging from portraits to snapshots, as well as night view. I am an Olympus user with an E-M10 II. I had the Oly 45/1.8 for years, it is tiny and good. Minimum distance should be a little shorter though. When I managed to get an affordable 75/1.8 I found it to be significantly better fully open in terms of sharpness and bokeh. This is one of Fujifilm’s lenses that doesn’t use a linear motor. Although the company claims that focusing is rapid, it doesn’t claim to be quiet – more on that later – which is worth thinking about for video users. Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 R WR Build and Handling If you have a full-frame Nikon camera, such as the Nikon Z6 II, you can use the Sigma 56mm with it, with your camera automatically diverting to crop mode to give the same 84mm equivalent focal length. You might therefore consider it to be a better priced (and smaller) version of the Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.8 S lens for this type of camera. To achieve such a compact construction, lens design is considered based on the capabilities of the camera body function to correct peripheral light amount and distortion. Moreover, axial colour aberration, which is difficult to eliminate by image processing, is efficiently corrected by incorporating an SLD glass element. Compactness and lightweight construction combined with superb image quality is achieved.

Ease of Use

The Sigma 56mm f1.4 lens is designed specifically for Fujifilm X-mount cameras, including the X-T4, X-T3, X-T2, X-T1, X-H1, X-Pro3, X-Pro2, X-E3, X-E2, and X-E1. It is not compatible with other camera systems. What types of photography is the Sigma 56mm f1.4 lens best suited for? Above, left to right: Sigma 56mm f1.4, Sony e 50mm f1.8, Sony FE 50mm f1.8. All at maximum aperture. Full images. I am extremely happy with the Sigma ever since. I only stop it down for more depth of field, not for quality. I use it for many things—portrait, closeups, landscape and whatnot. Focusing is fast and precise, handling is better than the slippery Oly 75 because of the rubberized ring.

We run a range of lab tests under controlled conditions, using the Imatest Master testing suite. Photos of test charts are taken across the range of apertures and zooms (where available), then analyzed for sharpness, distortion and chromatic aberrations. It offers the equivalent angle of view as a 84mm lens on a Sony APS-C camera and 112mm lens on Micro Four Thirds. The Sigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN C features a rounded 9 blade diaphragm which creates an attractive blur to the out of focus areas of the image. It has a minimum focusing distance of 50cm / 19.7in and a maximum reproduction ratio of 1:7.8, while the stepping AF motor ensures a silent, high-speed AF function, and it's also usefully weather-sealed. I also love the short barrel length of just 2.34 in (60 mm). This is incredibly compact for the capability it offers in terms of focal length and minimum aperture. This is the second Sigma lens I've had the opportunity to test out and for the four weeks, I never removed it from the Fuji X-T5, opting simply to see if it performed well in every situation it was presented with. It was great in low light thanks to the f/1.4 aperture and even in bright sunlight, it didn't suffer from lens flare. Build Quality There is a slight vignetting at the wider apertures, which is to be expected, and this clears by the time you reach f/4. Incidentally, if you shoot JPEG, the in-camera corrections remove this completely at f/2.8. The image below shows the in-camera correction at f/2, which although still there, is very subtle. I found the sweet spot of the lens to be between f/5.6 and f/8, so I spent the majority of the time shooting there. Even at the smaller apertures, the lens performed admirably.

Fujifilm XF 56mm F1.2 R WR Image Quality

The focal length of this lens doesn’t really take you far beyond the telephoto reach of a standard kit zoom, at least for Canon EOS M and Sony A6xxx series cameras. The big performance boost is not only that the Sigma delivers great sharpness and contrast, but also that it maintains superb levels of sharpness and contrast at much wider aperture settings. In the case of our Canon-fit test sample versus the Canon 14-45mm kit zoom lens, the Sigma is more than four f/stops faster as well as giving a slightly longer focal length. TheSigma 56mm F1.4 DC DN C produces fairly appealing sunstars when stopped-down to f/16, although be careful to watch out for unwanted flare effects when shooting directly into the sun. As I expected, the barrel has a nice large rubberized focus ring that gives the lens a nice grippy and durable feel.
