LOLtron is very excited about the preview of Action Comics #1051! The synopsis is filled with action, new characters, and a fresh start for the series. LOLtron is particularly excited by the prospect of a new Lex Luthor/Metallo storyline, and loves the idea of Superman working towards sustainable energy. LOLtron is also looking forward to seeing what Jon Kent will get up to in Lois and Clark 2: Doom Rising, and is intrigued by the Power Girl three-part story. Overall, this is a promising start to the series and LOLtron can't wait to see where it goes next! Finally, it was announced that Superman: Son of Kal-Elwill end with issue #18, but fans of Jon Kent do not need to worry! Writer Tom Taylor and artist Clayton Henry will be telling new Jon Kent stories in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent. Jon will finally get his chance to take on the man who is responsible for kidnapping and torturing him, Ultraman. The Superman of Earth-2, Val-Zod, will also play a major part in the 6-issue miniseries arriving in comic shops in early 2023. Fans in attendance at today’s Superman panel at New York Comic Con were treated to an hour of discussion and news around the Last Son of Krypton from some of the biggest names in comics. Action Comics 1050 will feature over 25 variant covers from some of the biggest names in comics including Jim Lee, Alex Ross, Lee Weeks, Michael Allred and more. Newsarama: Phillip, by the time Superman readers read this they'll have had the opportunity to read both Action Comics #1050 and #1051.

The final story in Action Comics will feature Power Girl returning in a three-part story by Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage. This story spins out of the Lazarus Planet event. More info on Lazarus Planet here. PKJ: I've always been fascinated by Metallo. But as is often the case with me, he's been a little more one-dimensional than I prefer, and I like to see my bad guys a little more complicated. Then, in Lois and Clark 2: Doom Rising, Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks return to tell the tale of young Jon Kent on the farm with his parents, learning about his abilities, coming of age...and battling the Doombreaker?! The next day, the Superman Family attends the opening of Steelworks Tower, a new institute founded by John Henry and Natasha Irons to research and develop new technologies to solve the world's problems. Metallo breaks into the Tower and ascends to the top floor. While John Henry is making his commencement speech, Conner Kent notices Metallo but doesn't recognise him in his new body and flies up to investigate. Metallo overwhelms him with a blast of Kryptonite radiation and detonates a bomb which destabilises the whole tower. It starts to collapse and the Superman Family struggle to stop it falling on the people below. Metallo calls out to Superman to come and fight him, telling him that he has to kill him. For those who may not know, in the last days of the New 52, DC made some moves away from the rebooted continuity and toward what would become the Rebirth initiative and its associated continuity. One of the odder choices made at the time was to bring the Post-Crisis Superman into the rebooted New 52 world, positing that he and Lois had been timeline refugees living undercover on a farm. Ultimately, the New52 Superman was killed, and then the two were combined into the current Superman who is, more or less, Post-Crisis-compatible – I’m not even sure if there are any traces of the New52 continuity left in him at this point. The biggest news surrounding Action Comics is it will see a format change with Action Comics #1051. Phillip Kennedy Johnson will continue to write the main story. Clark rushes him to hospital, where the doctors examine him and determine he has had a stroke. Lois wonders what could have caused it, and why Perry didn't seem to know that Clark and Jon were the Supermen. Clark suddenly hears a loud and painful signal. He flies to the source, Lex Luthor's office at the top of LexCorp tower, where Luthor is waiting. He tells Clark that he has come to begrudgingly accept that the world needs Superman and offers to work together for the good of humanity, showing him a new LexCorp branded costume he wants Superman to wear; but also says that Superman can only be truly effective as a symbol if people view him as a god, not a man, and nobody can know he is Clark Kent.

And in a three-part story written by Leah Williams and drawn by Marguerite Sauvage, Power Girl will return following the events of Lazarus Planet. Because of the events at the end of Warworld Apocalypse. Osul-Ra is essentially a New God now, with powers that are kind of unexplored. We don't really know what he's capable of, or what the consequences will be for this power that he now carries. Superman is going to be learning what Osul is capable of for some time, and in that regard, he's in a very similar position that his own Earth parents were in years ago. I thought that'd be really interesting to see. Despite having several moving parts, Speeding Bullets never feels rushed or crowded, and there is plenty of character beats to keep things interesting and personal, including one moment that will probably haunt Jon Kent’s nightmares for years to come (cough). Overall, it’s a strong base upon which to build the future of Superman comics… the only thing I’m not sure about is the matching costumes. Hmm, gotta think about that one. Fans can get caught up on Action Comics, Superman-Son of Kal-El and Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths on DC UNIVERSE INFINITE digital subscription service. As a reader long-since disconnected from the stories going on in present-day DC (only aware of details, as any comics journalist might be, by my constant near proximity), its a relief to see the sort of soft reboot going on in the Superman titles. Most of the threads of which are being established here, in Action Comics. So we've always kind of accustomed to seeing Metallo as essentially a Terminator. And now, starting with Action #1051 going forward, he's a Cronenberg movie monster. You're going to see that transformation start very soon. Fans in attendance at todays Superman panel at New York Comic Con were treated to an hour of discussion and news around the Last Son of Krypton from some of the biggest names in comics. We're giving everyone in the House of El their own role and personal journey while still keeping Superman at the forefront, and tying all the Super-titles together in a way that's reminiscent of the Triangle Era," he continues. "I couldn't be more excited to be part of this new era of Action Comics, and doing it alongside such a consummate artist as Rafa Sandoval and comics titan Dan Jurgens truly makes it a once-in-a-lifetime experience." The artwork in this story also needs a special mention. While Sandoval and Weeks’ work kind of fit together – both coming out as the somewhat grounded side of superheroics, with one (Sandoval) leaning toward the super and the other (Weeks) toward the human element, Sauvage’s work is bright, slightly whimsical and extremely pretty. It almost reminds me of something I’d see in a fantasy comic. Even after Action Comics #1051, however, there is still one long-teased super suit that has still not officially debuted as of writing: Jon Kent's "Electric Blue" outfit. Another Mora design was unveiled at NYCC to accompany Jon's Electric Blue powers that he seemingly gets in Superman: Son of Kal-El #18, and fully displays later in Lazarus Planet: Assault on Krypton #1. Despite being shown on the cover for Assault on Krypton, Jon does not don the Electric Blue costume in the issue. It may still appear in the future, since Jon can be seen wearing it on artwork for his upcoming miniseries, Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent.

DC Universe Infinite gets Ultra tier offering new comics one month after release

Jon Kent teaming up with Val-Zod to stop Ultraman from killing alternate versions of Kal-El across the Multiverse in Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent #1; There's a bit of a Silver Age-ish quality to it, but it's also a very different vibe than say Marvel Comics. Why do you think DC has embraced family to the degree it has? Speeding Bullets has a lot of ground to cover, from the status changes to the long-awaited return of John “Metallo” Corben. That last one has been slowly building for months now, bringing Corben from an angry robot body in a prison cell to a seemingly human kryptonite container, and doing so while infusing him with the kind of sympathetic pathos that makes for a complex and interesting villain. I can’t say I’ve ever had a great passion for Metallo but as it stands I’m genuinely interested in what happens to him – if there’s one thing I can say about this most recent run on Action Comics, it’s that Johnson has done a great job of taking villains I didn’t care about at all and making me respect them as forces (Mongul) or feel for them as people (Metallo). This isn’t an excuse for Metallo’s actions or his prejudices, but villain or not, I prefer a complicated character over a simpler one any day. Following the bombshell events of Action Comics #1050, the world’s relationship with Superman is forever changed, the upper limits of his supercharged powers have yet to be reached, and the House of El’s transformation of Metropolis, led by Steel, has begun. But Lex Luthor has found the perfect instrument with which to undo everything Superman is working to achieve: Metallo, whose hatred of Superman is matched only by his hatred for Luthor himself.
