Description

The 622GW is the only dashcam in the range to feature a resolution of 4k, this allows for really crisp videos and you’ll be able to identify signs, faces and reg plates with ease. Another upgrade you’ll find in the 622GW that wasn’t features in the 522GW is digital image stabilization, this works much like it does on high end DSLR cameras to digitally make videos smoother and iron out the bumps. Unplug the power cable, turn the Dash Cam on and time how long the Dash Cam stays on for. The time it takes for the battery to drain will help us identify the root cause The second is a unit which plugs into the right side of the dash cam and uses a zoom lens to record the view out of the rear (Rear View). Finally there’s the Cabin View camera which is very similar but has a wide-angle lens and so records everything inside the car, but you can’t really see what’s happening out the rear window. The 4-metre cable is long enough to be trailed neatly through door seals and around the windscreen for a very tidy installation. The alternative is a hard-wired wiring set up; hooking the power mount into the ignition circuit and keeping the wires out of sight.

The 412GW works like any other dash camera, switching on when it gets power and then automatically recording short clips until full. It then loops over old footage, so it’s always on. If the built-in G sensor detects something unusual, such as hard braking or a bump, it will mark the footage to be saved, so it won’t be recorded over.If the dash cam does not appear as a drive on your PC, please press the reset button on the underside of your dash cam and try all the USB ports on your computer. If you forget your phone, the dash cam will alert you and display a red screen to remind you that the feature can’t operate. Alexa, save that recording. Weighing just 360g and measuring just 5.5cm wide, the 112 is our smallest Dash Cam yet and is built to be as simple to use as possible, with a bright 2” LED screen to view the menu and adjust various settings. Image quality is excellent, even in low light conditions. The 412GW records in up to 1440P at 30 frames per second, but it’s perhaps at its best in 1080P at 60 frames per second, which provides extremely clear, crisp, fluid video. You can also get Alexa to start and stop recording, though these commands aren’t particularly useful given you probably want your dash cam to record continuously.

The 422GW is noticeably smaller than the 412GW it replaces, being considerably narrower, but there’s still a good-sized screen. There are only two buttons: power and an emergency button (centred below the screen) which you can push to protect the video being recorded from being overwritten when the microSD card is full up. I couldn't agree more, we would 100% rather a customer ask than experience problems further down the line. The 422GW has a camera resolution of 1440p, more commonly known as 2k. Whilst the camera does also offer 60fps, you will need to keep the resolution at 1080p to utilise this. The internal hardware and software are where you’ll find the major differences as it’s the first in the series that features WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS connectivity, that’s where the GW comes from. This allows you to connect the 322GW to the MyNextbase Connect app and view your dashcam footage on your mobile phone. By comparison, the 222 dashcam requires you to take out the SD card and insert it into a laptop or PC. For added convenience, the 412GW has an automatic recording function that starts and stops recording as you drive. This eliminates the need for manual operation and ensures that you capture all important moments on the road. It also has a loop recording feature, which overwrites the oldest footage when the memory card is full, ensuring continuous recording without interruption.

In our early testing, there was a bug which meant the SOS became disabled in the app and we had to enable it each time we got into the car. This has now been fixed, but it is by no means the only bug in the app. We’ll start by looking at a comparison table of the main features and then review each one below. Series 2 Comparison Chart We have two types of mounts available; a suction cup or an adhesive mount. The adhesive mount is considerably more durable and less prone to breakage. The Nextbase 412GW is a dashcam that offers a range of features. Designed for use in vehicles, it provides a reliable and durable recording solution for capturing road incidents and accidents. With its sleek design and compact size, it can be easily installed and positioned on your car's windshield, offering a discreet and unobtrusive look.

Stay connected

Plug your Dash Cam in. Ensure the cable is plugged directly into the dash cam and NOT via the mount. Remove the SD card and press the reset button on the underside of the dash cam. Then turn the Dash Cam on. Please turn Parking Mode off and turn Screen Saver off as these could interfere with the test results. Please remember that after this test your Dash Cam will once again need charging as the battery will be flat. The series 2 range of dashcams is the second generation of devices from Nextbase that were launched throughout 2019 and 2020. There is a new GPS system which runs at 10Hz, so it means your position is recorded 10 times per second. It leads to a much more accurate measure of where you were on the road at any given time, so it could come in handy if you have to prove your innocence should an insurance claim be made against you, for example.

On the dash cam's screen you'll see a menu of 3 options. Please select 'Mass Storage' on the Dash Cam screen and then OK so that only that displays on the screen. Nextbase have gone all out to make sure this device is worth upgrading, another feature is the extreme weather mode which uses sophisticated algorithms to improve visibility in fog or other bad weather. It has been completely re-designed to provide a fresh new look and feel, for enhanced user experience. Jim has been testing and reviewing products for over 20 years. His main beats include VPN services and antivirus. He also covers smart home tech, mesh Wi-Fi and electric bikes. Next in the series 2 range is the 422GW. This dashcam doesn’t have a huge number of upgrades compared to the 322GW, however the one that does stand out is the camera quality.

Nextbase’s middle-of-the-road option (pardon the pun) is the 322GW. The camera hardware of the 322GW are similar to the 222 with a 1080p resolution, 140 viewing angle and a 2.5” screen, although this has been upgraded to a touch screen. I’d recommend using a separate Camera such as the 122 or 222 on the rear windscreen. You will need a separate power supply and SD card as it will not connect to your 412GW, but can be used as a Camera facing rearwards. The prices are comparable with the Series 2 Rear Cams, and if you’d like to keep using your 412GW, is the most viable option. If the Dash Cam does not appear as a drive on your PC, please press the reset button on the underside of your Dash Cam and try all the USB ports on your computer.
