Description

The Scorsese masterpiece flaunts its stuff with a strong HEVC H.265 encode in HDR10 made from the same 4K remaster of the original elements used for last year's 25th Anniversary Blu-ray. Although the results don't quite compare to other Ultra HD releases, the presentation showcases several notable improvements though the upgrade is pretty minor and subtle. Paper is Cheaper than Film– Essentially a fancy way of showing some storyboard to screen comparisons by Scorcese. that I am not always a fan of how shot on film productions tend to look in the increased resolution of 4K, and that's once again the case with this Plot: What’s it about? Video: How’s it look? Audio: How’s it sound? Supplements: What are the extras? The Bottom Line Plot: What’s it about? Audio Commentary with Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, Nicholas Pileggi, Michael Ballhaus, Frank Vincent, Thelma Schoonmaker, Barbara De Fina, and Henry Hill

Henry Hill might be a small time gangster, who may have taken part in a robbery with Jimmy Conway and Tommy De Vito, two other gangsters who might have set their sights a bit higher. His two partners could kill off everyone else involved in the robbery, and slowly start to think about climbing up through the hierarchy of the Mob. Henry, however, might be badly affected by his partners' success, but will he consider stooping low enough to bring about the downfall of Jimmy and Tommy? The overall texture of the image reminds me most of Columbia's Ghostbusters in 4k, which looks akin to projection of a 35mm print.

Again, I haven't seen the disc as I don't own it (hush, Goodfella's ain't anywhere near the top of my fave gangster pics....... ) and I'm not trying to rag on the kit involved (again, the above review is massively favourable). But with these new UHDs the benefits have the potential to be so incremental that we could very well have such small issues like the calibration on a specific TV being the difference between a 'good disc' and a 'not so good disc'. shelf room for this impressive new series being distributed by The Film Vault. What's perhaps also going to be exciting for physical media buffs is that controversy (what else is new in the wild and wooly world of home theater aficionados?), and that may make this choice a bit on the risky side for The

respected as "a good earner". Henry doesn't yet see the limits on his life, because daily existence Aside from the compelling storytelling, 'GoodFellas' rewards the viewer with a dramatic depth and richness beyond all the smart dialogue and lively characters. Unlike Francis Ford Coppola’s ‘Godfather’ movies which portrayed the mafia families with an air of royalty and stateliness, ‘Goodfellas’ approach is far more down-to-earth. (Compare the Corleone family’s close relationship with the Frank Sinatra-character, who serenades the bride at a grand wedding on their opulent estate, while Hill and his girlfriend “merely” get a front-row seat at a Bobby Vinton performance). Scorsese’s view of the mafia isn’t romanticized to the point where the viewer loses touch with the main characters' carefree world of playing games, entertaining new girlfriends, and spending limitless amounts of money every night. This release also includes two Blu-rays from the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray release. One featuring the film in 1080p, and the other containing a set of extras: DISC ONE – 4K MOVIE Warner Bros has brought Goodfellas to UHD with a great transfer and a decent amount of extras, all of which have been carried over from previous releases, though the accompanying booklet and letter with Scorsese’s signature from the 25th Anniversary Blu-ray is notably absent. A few new things could have been added to spice things up, including the film’s marketing campaign, but as is, this is still a nice Ultra HD upgrade. believe that the colors of the 2007 release were accurate. Before the era of digital intermediates, release overall is that The Film Vault, probably due to licensing issues with Warner, has included the way old 1080 presentation that Ken precisely to comment, often ironically, on the action. The film has no original score; its music is Public Enemies: The Golden Age of the Gangster Film– The most robust supplement on the disc is this 106 minute documentary. While not focusing on Goodfellas per se, but rather the genre as a whole with emphasis on some of the James Cagney films.

I’ve seen Jaws so many times I’ve lost count. I have the Blu-ray and it’s a good transfer. Doubt I’ll pay for the 4K. of Henry Hill's life as a gangster, or, as Scorsese puts it in the letter accompanying this new Blu-ray release, of a life that might "spin out of control at It seems to have been released a dozen times on DVD and Blu-ray, but in reality it's probably less than half that in various incarnations and permutations.

Warner deferred releasing the film on UHD until triple-layer BD-100s became available, so that the 145-minute feature different reviewers means different opinions," and, boy, is that ever the case with this release. There have been a number of 1080enduring classic, is how effectively Scorsese conveys the allure of that life, the attraction of easy While I don't find it to be, as Roger Ebert phrased it, "The best mob movie ever made," it's right up their at the pinnacle of the mount. I love this film. Also what is the BD version like? More often than not, a 'poor' UHD transfer has an even worse BD transfer so just because its cheaper, doesn't mean the gain isn't still significant. Is the remastered BD 'better' or are we assuming on this? Genuinely asking as I've been burnt by that before, thinking a 4K transfer isn't great, then immediately doing an AB comparison and seeing how poor the BD release is was somewhat eye opening.
