Slamming a 20 lb head of this 25 lb hammer against solid concrete sent no repercussions up my arms whatsoever. I was used to swinging 8-12 lb hammers and figured the 20 wouldn't be that much different and I could not have been more wrong. As America's leader in industrial workholding equipment and striking tools for more than 80 years, Wilton Tools has a reputation for quality, durability and reliability that is unmatched by any other brand.

Also I find that using sledge hammers with a fiber glass handle to be better in general then wooden handles. Sledge hammers are suitable for heavy pounding tasks, including breaking through masonry or drywall, fracturing concrete or stone and dislodging trapped objects. In fact, I don't see any real evidence of the head deforming either (the head on my 16 pound hammer has noticeably deformed over time). The BASH does seem to be a nice sledge for sure, I think they are made in South Africa, but I have not been able to confirm this yet. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.Rule of thumb - if you've ever played the classic carnival game where you whack the pad to ring the bell, the general weight of those mallets is the typical maximum you can tolerate swinging.

It comes with a non-slip grip vulcanised rubber handle for a secure grip and a safety plate for preventing head dislodging. I can't see any place a 20 lb hammer fits into automotive work unless maybe your working on the 200 ton coal mining dump trucks. Having said that, and not knowing what your house/property looks like, if you find you are having to take a bunch of wacks using the 8 lb or ten lb hammers, you might find going up in weight to be useful.Genuine second growth American Hickory moisture controlled, machine-gauged to precise dimensions for a perfect fit with weather-resistant clear lacquer finish. I'm actually shocked there hasn't been a post yet from someone claiming to have easily used a 20 pounder when they were in kindergarten or some such nonsense. You want something massive enough that its weight dropping does most of the work, light enough that you can lift it as many times as necessary without exhausting yourself. Back east somewhere Ive also got a 40 lb'er for driving fence posts, but thats not your typical sledge in that it has oversized faces.

I could probably swing this thing at concrete all day for a year and it'd look brand new at the end of it. Standard Industrial grade Sledge Hammers are suited to all general purpose heavy striking applications. We will collect the Import Fees Deposit at the time of your purchase and use it to cover applicable taxes and duties on import. It features an unbreakable steel-core handle technology to prevent breaking during overstrikes, making it ideal for demolition applications. A sledgehammer is a robust tool with a large, flat head surface and a long handle, great for gathering the momentum needed in a swing for heavy duty construction or demolition work. pound hammer is gonna be real awkward to swing unless it's underhand in my opinion, I'm short though so this might not apply to you. As a heavy equipment mech and not an animal, 6'2",225, 28 y/o, a 16lb is about max for using alot for me, a friend whose a bit smaller, asked his boss for a 20lb, swung that a few times doing jobs where the 16 wouldn't work, not a fan of it at all.

I preferred the square design over the tapered heads because if you were banging 2x4 stakes in the ground you could use the square head sideways and it wouldn't split the wood so easily as it hit the whole flat surface of the stake. No matter how much care you take, incorrectly hitting the hammer on the handle instead of the head cannot be avoided. This year I'm clearing an area for a shed, and decided to get something a little bigger to (hopefully) break things up a little faster and with fewer hits. Remember, force equals mass times acceleration and continued use of higher mass often leads to forced acceleration (to get the job done and let your muscles rest).
