At 140-minutes, finishing on a marketing hook feels cheap, the pay-off more expectation rather than satisfaction. It’s hard not to think about where it will sit in history along with films such as Akira, Spirited Away, and The Iron Giant.

A deleted scene that originally featured Miles meeting Miguel much earlier gives some of the supporting spiders more lines, but was best omitted. It somehow manages to do the seemingly impossible and delivers an outstanding follow-up to the perfect ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ (you can also read my glowing Blu-ray review of that film HERE) and actually manages to somehow outdo it with a sequel that’s even better than its outstanding predecessor. When not involved in screen-tearing, intentionally glitching, multi-style action, Across the Spider-Verse knows how to keep the imagery compelling through dialog. The 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release of ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ includes a nice offering of bonus content which can all be found on the included Blu-ray disc.track for those without higher end surround sound setups) that you'll continue to feel long after the movie is finished. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse on a Panasonic TX-65HZ1000B Ultra HD 4K TV with a Panasonic DP-UB450 Dolby Vision HDR10+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. There are plenty of bonus featurettes included, most of which stick to technical and design aspects and also suggest that producers Amy Pascal and Avi Arad should really study that Steve Buscemi “How do you do, fellow kids?

But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders, and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

It’s probably evident to fans that this is the dark, cliffhanger-y Empire Strikes Back of the trilogy, but if you’re pitching it to casual viewers who just really liked the talking pig in part one, take note. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask.

Good animation film and a good follow on from the first however it is over long at 2 hours and 20 minutes and it is the first part of something, guess we will have to wait another four years to find out. In the first opening battle scene when Gwen battles the Vulture there are some subtle surround effects that build up and eventually hit some of the Atmos height channels. Not here, to be fair – Spider-Verse’s purpose from the first film was to introduce this idea, play with it, and create chaos.

So, when Gwen is struggling with her father due to her own story, it is immediately recognisable even though the catalyst is different. It’s brimming with plenty of information, although sometimes the conversation goes off on tangents, which is the bane of many group commentaries. In reviews today, Stephen has taken a great in-depth look at Terry Gilliam’s acclaimed Time Bandits (1981) in 4K Ultra HD from the Criterion Collection. Astonishing in its vibrancy and color, Across the Spider-Verse is, forgive the unintended pun, a marvel to look at.
