He reached around and shook her hand and they smiled brief ironic smiles together at their mutual formality. Reacher and the woman - who claims to be an FBI agent - are kidnapped and taken 2000 miles across America. He sat and heard it out until the last organ blast echoed to silence, which meant that as he got out of his car the three men were near enough for him to interpret some kind of intention in their approach. Die Trying is the second novel in the Jack Reacher series and I have to say this one didn’t grab my attention as much as the first but by the end I was hooked.

The sort of instinctive sound an earnest, naive citizen makes when something should not be happening. And now comes the but, I think, and we shall see, whether I might find these books becoming a little formulaic. In montana a plan is forming to bring together the start of a new country away from the rule of america, what does the agent have to do with this plan and what has reacher got himself involved with. This was the first time they had worked for this particular employer, and there had been hints of more work to come. It turns out to be a very long ride in an Econoline van, all the way from Chicago to northwestern Montana, where a nutty but well-armed militia group is preparing to declare its independence from the United States. His debut novel, Killing Floor , won two awards for best first mystery and was nominated for two more. The door had opened up in his face and an old metal walking cane had clattered out on the sidewalk right in front of him.

Child's color-by-numbers prose never gets in the way, so it all boils down to a very readable action-thriller. Reacher breaks free of his restraints, kills Bell, hides his body, and re-restrains himself before the others become suspicious. The other main character was Holly an FBI agent that was the main kidnapping victim, and she was a great character. Then he had been assigned elsewhere and served all around the world and hadn't really seen a Glock 17 since. DETAIL which can certainly be fun if applying correctly, but it also makes the story came to almost a halt in the middle parts. It meant that as he pulled into his secluded slot behind his professional building the prelude ahead of Bach's B Minor Fugue still had thirty-eight seconds left to run. Borken ultimately commutes his sentence, and Reacher begins his first day of his punishment: five years of hard labor. During the punishment, Reacher and Holly are forced to bury the caught Jackson's corpse, and Reacher suspects something big is about to happen.

The characters are well written and yeah, The dialogues are exceptionally good and correct for the characters who speak it. The FBI is desperate to rescue the woman, a Special Agent from the Chicago office, because the FBI always - always - takes care of its own, and because this woman is not just another agent.

Now retired he wanders around the country off the grid while making a habit of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. While Child has Reacher making some astute social and cultural observations, this is nowhere near the level of subtly intellectual commentary MacDonald was able to pull off. She'd make it all sound easy and logical, like there was no way anybody could be in any kind of doubt about it. Reacher makes this calculation and then follows the woman into the car and is taken along for the ride. I have no idea how many ladies read this series, but I would imagine Reacher has a larger male fan base.
