Beginning with Presence, each of the chapters has simple explanations as to what she is trying to get you to do, along with clear steps to bring you closer to nature. A richly illustrated, and gentle introduction to the therapeutic benefits of connecting with the natural environment – 3 StarsMade for dipping in to, ‘Grounded’ is very easy on the eye and, with lots of white space included, this is a quick read too. Huda Al-Marashi is the author of the bestselling memoir First Comes Marriage: My Not-So-Typical American Love Story.

She has published numerous articles and is an author and coeditor of two MIT Press books, including Ecopsychology: Science, Totems, and the Technological Species. Grounded is a 192-page beautifully photographed hardback book, exploring over 8 chapters how we can further our relationship with nature for better overall health. It will encourage you to take your first steps to self reliance – because this is more easily achievable than you had ever imagined. It is something that I feel is vital for my wellbeing, it makes me feel alive and helps put everything else into perspective. But there is also a single-child and younger siblings, each of them with different family dynamics, and as a story about internal conflicts relating to family relationships and identity, this was really well portrayed. Mobility studies scholar Christopher Schaberg tours the newly opened airport terminal outside of New Orleans (MSY) in late 2019, and goes on to survey the broad cultural landscape of empty airports and grounded planes in the early months of the novel coronavirus’s spread in 2020. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to read about nature or mindfulness, develop a deeper connection with nature and the world or just read a beautiful book! The surface story is paced well and entertaining and sufficient, but the details and the story beneath the surface, really is powerful.

Over the years I’ve read to a lot of kids, with a lot of kids, discussed books in classrooms, and in book clubs, so when reviewing I often share what kids think or what I imagine kids will think, and I usually acknowledge when I’m being overly critical as a reviewer, but this book I will tell you, I did not read through the intended middle grade lens, I read it as a 42 year old seasoned reader. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. and Then the Pandemic considers the time leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing global plummet in commercial flight. What let it down a little for me, is that I found the photography selected (whilst very pretty to look at) always presented an idealised view of nature… everything was pristine, in artfully muted light, and altogether felt too ‘tidy’.The author’s ‘can-do’ attitude, her openness, and her willingness to learn and adapt as she goes along, shine throughout. Immerse yourself in this engagingly written story of how Liz Zorab turned her life round and created an almost self-sufficient homestead on less than an acre of land. I knew the book would be good with the authors' names on the cover and their ability to tell a good story, but I was still blown away by how real the characters were fleshed out and their "problems" articulated. GROUNDED has featured in BBC Wildlife Magazine, Countryfile Magazine and Ecopsychology UK amongst others. This is a self-study course in nature connection, facilitated by one of ecotherapy’s leading voices and practitioners, and a real treat to follow!
