There was however one person, who was hypnotized by the spectacle of that aloof elegance when it struck him with the force majeure equal to the moment of his re/birth.

On a superficial level this might be about a moment of falling in love, but it is a lot deeper than that. A production of The Vortex, of which I was the producer, was still running in the West End and I was planning a another, of Iris Murdoch's The Black Prince. We may go through our lives happy or unhappy, successful or unfulfilled, loved or unloved, without ever standing cold with the shock of recognition, without ever feeling the agony as the twisted iron in our soul unlocks itself and we slip at last into place.
