Camera technical details can get complicated quickly, but we all need a place to start before diving into the deep end. Sample images in this review were edited in Adobe Camera Raw with adjustments limited to white balance and exposure parameters.

The main problem with the focus wheel is it’s near impossible to do the full range in one continuous turn. The only external control is the broad ribbed focus ring that moves fairly smoothly and has a decent resistance but lacks the heavy feel of true damping. This is a very good level of performance overall, and images should be bright, sharp and attractive throughout the range. If you want to be able to change lens (most important item in photography) with portability, this is it. This lens focusing very well, if you experience some “front focus” issue, you should enable “constant preview” feature on your camera. Ultra compact, lightweight (only 125g) general purpose lens offering superb optical performance and a beautiful bokeh.

We can take the phrase undistorted view of the world quite literally, as the distortion levels measured are an extremely low -0. It's however very cheap (at least at that time), small and it even came with a free lens hood unlike other Olympus lenses before it. Panasonic takes pride in the smoothness/polishing of its aspherical surfaces/molds, and it shows here. It's only slightly larger and heavier, and where the two lens overlap in aperture settings, the 25mm ƒ/1. Lens flare can cause some loss of contrast especially when shooting directly into bright light sources, while multiple ghosts of bright sources can manifest themselves as colored 'blobs' that get more defined the more you stop the lens down. One thing to point out is to get maximum results from this lens you need to run the camera in aperture priority mode or manual exposure mode. I carried out a brick wall test to check for distortion and sharpness across that range at different aperture settings, but the results were so good wide open at f/1. However, this is one of the only lenses for a mirrorless system where I had issues with focus accuracy.

If full RRP is your only option and you have the money it's probably worth spending the extra to get the Olympus 25 / 1. The iPhone 15 Pro Max stretches into new telephoto territory with its tetraprism design and 5x (120mm equivalent) reach. The 35 and 40mm are better and can show better the effect of being there, near the action, as you can get closer with them. so yeah this will be about as good as it gets for the average M4/3 user that isn't springing for an f1.I think the variability was horrible on these, and m4/3 lenses in general were not very impressive, sadly. Together with the 50mm focal distance (35mm camera equivalent) which is almost the same viewing angle and sense of perspective of human eyes, this lens is ideal for a portraits or scenery as they see. The latter produces extraordinarily sharp images to contrast with the blurred background and had a longer FL to compensate for the slower speed when used to blur backgrounds.
