Bright, clean copy with no markings inside and only the very lightest bump to the front lower aqua board. Le petit vieux à barbichette sortait à nouveau de l'ombre de l'entrepôt, à reculons, regardait à gauche et à droite, avec un geste des deux mains comme pour attirer vers lui le lourd camion dont il dirigeait la manœuvre. The edition I read was translated by one Dennis Brain, and I'm afraid he could have done with an independent and bilingual proofreader. Believing that without him the police are missing a trick or two he anonymously sends in helpful messages, which ultimately result in the perpetrator of the crime being unmasked.

Good solid paperback with moderate reading/age wear, may have some light markings, pages may have some mild tanning. In " Maigret's Little Joke" (aka Maigret Enjoys Himself), the naked body of a woman is discovered in a bed.In ‘Maigret and the Burglar’s Wife’, "Sad Freddie" is committing a burglary when he discovers the body of a dead woman, holding a telephone in her hand. But you read a Simenon book more for the air, and there's a lot of here, with lovely details of Paris. The dramas offer no introduction or background information on Maigret, so a listener unfamiliar with his stories may find the occasional focus on his foibles and mannerisms puzzling. Inspector Maigret is meant to be taking a holiday, but he can’t resist following the development of his colleague Janvier’s case in the papers – and playing a few tricks on the way.

But Philippe Jave had secretly come to Paris that day, and in fact he had a girlfriend, Antoinette Chauvet, the young daughter of one of his maids, Josépha Chauvet. Barry Letts may be known by some viewers as having been a key figure in the Doctor Who series, producing and directing, also introducing some much-loved characters. Saw this on the UK Talking Pictures channel, who are showing all 4 series of Maigret, originally early 60s BBC. Jacket rubbed with small chips and tears, including a 1/2" chip to the lower front panel, in Brodart. However, he did manage to get involved, having seen this last murder (of a doctor's wife) splashed in the papers, and the Bistro owner (nearest the HQ) referring to the possible suspects.

full-cast dramatisation starring Maurice Denham as Inspector Maigret and Michael Gough as his creator Georges Simenon Georges Simenon and his masterful inspector, Jules Maigret, look back together over one of their favourite cases in this full-cast dramatisation that has been specially adapted for radio from the original novel. Standing here at the window in the middle of the morning, vaguely observing the comings and goings in the street, he had a feeling that reminded of certain days in his childhood, when his mother was still alive and he was off school because he had the flu or it was the end of term. The Yellow Dog sees Maigret upsetting the citizens of Concarneau as he begins his murder investigation. How can he keep his promise to Mme Maigret and let Inspector Janvier get on with solving the crime when he is haunted by the question: why the devil was the murdered woman naked? Solid support from the cast (well-known faces Ann Way, who was in masses of TV, and tons of stage work, Barry Letts, Stephanie Bidmead and Michael Goodliffe, amongst others), and a nice joke at the end, when Lucas shows that he'd known all along who had been sending the helpful anonymous notes!

If you run your hand over it you can feel the original French underneath; clunky syntax and phrases that sound unnatural in English--because they are. He ensures he visits the right cafes and bars so he can pick up news - and Mme Maigret is alert to this.He fell victim to the translator's pitfall of producing a very literal translation that reads like an unpolished rough draft. Georges Simenon's French detective has four more cases to solve in this these BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisations. They revisit their old haunts, eat sausages and chips in riverside bistros, and nearly walk Madame's feet off up and down the quays.

Maurice Denham stars as Maigret with Michael Gough as Georges Simenon in four more of the French detective's most intriguing cases.Lightly bumped with the author's name almost completely rubbed off the spine and a small scuff to the lower edge of the front board.
