The album's power isn't lost on Iovine, who later told Rolling Stone: "The right people were in the room together.

Produced by Jimmy Iovine and Knopfler, the record – which contains many Springsteen-esque elements – features the cleanliness and clarity that have long been Dire Straits trademarks. The second single release was " Skateaway," and the third and final single from the album was the lengthy opening track, " Tunnel of Love," with its intro "The Carousel Waltz" by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, which only reached the number 54 position in the UK.

With new group members Alan Clark and Hal Lindes on board, Dire Straits embarked on tours of Europe, North America, and Oceania [6] from October 1980 until July 1981 to promote the album. Considered by many fans to be the group's most complete album, the 1980 set witnesses leader Mark Knopfler greatly expanding his songwriting palette and setting his storytelling amidst more complex, involving arrangements. Skateaway" is another brilliant song, the only song on which Knopfler really shows us what a great guitar player he is. But whatever will happen in the future, he'll never sound as inspired and brilliant again as on this wonderful album. Making Movies Is A Rock Masterpiece After Dire Straits second album was criticized as more of the same, Mark Knopfler responded with a rock masterpiece titled Making Movies.Everything sounds the same at a certain point, all of these songs start off good but trail off into nothing of note. This is another story song, but of a hot young girl that skates around the city listening and bobbing to music on her headphones engrossed in the fantasies of the songs and oblivious to the world. It’s not a Mofi 45 or UHQR but it’s as good or better than the 33 ⅓ versions that come from those efforts. Making Movies was later certified platinum in the United States and double-platinum in the United Kingdom by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) respectively. David appears on video playing "Solid Rock" and "Les Boys" live in concert, but these performances preceded the recording.

Then the album takes a noticeable decline in quality, which is extremely noticeable but those songs still suffice. And the songs are big and dramatic, with crescendos and huge hopeful choruses, and lines like "it's just the danger when you're riding at your own risk/she said 'you are the perfect stranger' she said 'baby let's keep it like this'".Twisting by the Pool" was released on the ExtendedancEPlay EP on 10 January 1983 and reached the UK Top 20 when released as a single. Tunnel of Love was a little closer for me comparing the two but still have the give the nod to this release. It appears mine was done at the Toronto plant and have seen decent pressings from there on occasion.
