About this deal

The character has been de-aged since I'm Alan Partridge, the make-up peeled back, but Coogan is so effortless in slipping into the character, his facial expressions and tics so well-defined, that it's almost impossible to look at Coogan's face and see anyone other than Partridge. Alan Partridge is one of Britain's favourite and most decorated unemployed broadcasters - although he does have a podcast. So many laugh out loud moments, you know why you are here, reading these aren't going to stop you enjoying Partridge's peerless production. Which makes me interested in exactly how much Coogan contributes to each work versus how much the Gibbons contribute. In his inspirational new memoir Big Beacon , Alan tells two stunning stories of triumph over mild adversity: somehow managing to rebuild both his TV career and an abandoned lighthouse in Kent. There was some mention on that Off Menu about fiction writing by Alan, I got the impression that they might be expanding some of that but they wandered off the topic.Alan Partridge spends much of Big Beacon, the no-less-than third instalment of his memoirs, fretting over cancel culture.

The two strands will run in tandem, their narrative arcs mirroring each other to make the parallels between the two stories abundantly clear to the less able reader. The book is, at this point as good as it could be, pretty much an anthology of shorter stories (I'd explain what a vignette is, but the listener may be hot, tired or Greek) combined into what's likely to be the last of the Partridge books. It seems that Steve is disengaged from the character of Alan and it no longer feels like the same character.
