From meeting Paula for the first time at a wedding event in March, it was quite clear that we wouldn’t want anybody else to host our ceremony on our special day. The team at Kings have been indispensable over the past two years, particularly during the prolonged period of lockdown. By her side throughout all of these amazing achievements has been her family – mum Nicola, dad Mark and sister Gracie – whose incredible commitment we also wholeheartedly appreciate. Owner Paula believes in the old adage that marriage is a mosaic made of millions of tiny moments and strives to capture the uniqueness of your life-long creation.

First we announced the winner of the award for outstanding healthcare team – Kings Neuro-oncology team. Whilst there he began to notice a large number of smashed clay pots around the slum areas of Mumbai.

We then announced the winner of the award for incredible individual working in a clinical setting – Jillian Sokratous. Unfortunately, Farshad was unable to join us on the night but we’ve sent his award across the Atlantic to Toronto. Embracing the role of celebrant fully, she welcomes all thoughts outside of the box regarding the content, format, or style of your day.

From the moment we had our first consultation with Paula, we knew that she was definitely the celebrant for us. Above all, she aims to make your ceremony a warm and relaxing space, ensuring loving lasting memories for everyone attending. The courage she has continued to display in the face of adversity is astounding, and she has given so many in our community a voice by sharing her own story so honestly and generously. Farshad is a senior resident in the neurosurgery training program at the University of Toronto and is set to become an independent surgeon-scientist in summer 2023.This event is an opportunity for Black women to come and feel seen and supported amongst others with similar experiences in science. It is this powerful symbol of oppression that inspired Simon to launch our range of Dalit branded products.

The final Celebrating You award to be announced before the first break was The Viv McBeth Award for Fundraiser of the Year – John Royden. Hal Cruttenden, our host for the evening, kicked off Celebrating You by announcing the recipient of our Outstanding Contribution Award – Sarah Lindsell. Whatever the occasion, I truly believe that it is an honour to be given the opportunity to help people to celebrate, during their most emotional and memorable life events, in the way that is right for them. Paula had never met my dad, but so many people said what a beautiful service it was and that it was as if she’d been a friend of the family for a long time.

Paula made us both feel at ease, ensuring that she really got to know us personally as a couple, as well making the effort to get to know those closest to us. As part of the celebration, the event will feature interactive games, networking sessions and informative displays. In 2010 Life Association launched the Dalit Goods brand to raise awareness of the Dalits’ plight and also funds for the charity.
