Description

It's cleverly written, with various POVs and the different strands of the story being slowly but steadily woven together.

The obvious exception is the perpetrator, who is, in melodramatic fashion, particularly evil and sociopathic. Des longueurs, du remplissage et des pages et des pages qui ne servent qu'à entretenir un suspense sans fin. That leaves space to concentrate on the main plot line and for tying up of loose ends, while still leaving enough of a cliff hanger to please even the most ardent of thriller fans. The endearing inhabitants of Bruncliffe are back, banding together with good old Yorkshire grit, this time to foil an organised crime gang who, improbably, are running a drugs/people trafficking ring out of a bunch of old farm sheds. In terms of ratings, I can imagine that those readers invested in the goings on in Bruncliffe and the Dales Detective Agency it’s a clear winner but it proved a bit of a struggle for me without experience of the earlier books. Great descriptions of the landscape, characters and the shenanigans of the locals who inhabit her pages. The mother of Stuart, the young estate agent, is convinced: her son is not on vacation as everyone thinks, but has disappeared!

But with Samson O’Brien still in London helping the Met Police clear his name, and the newly appointed member of the investigations team, Ida Capstick, distracted by her brother George’s insistence that their farm is haunted, Delilah Metcalfe is struggling to meet the mounting demands for the agency’s services. This latest instalment had the now expected mix of mystery, comedy and acutely observed village life. They get better with each book and we get to see more and more characters that add a lot to the story – old people, a rich guy, questionable characters, all together shady characters, a fun as hell cleaner/maid, and so much more! Bien que Samson et Delilah n'y croient pas vraiment, ils acceptent d'enquêter et, de fil en aiguille, vont découvrir que tout n'est pas très net dans cette histoire.
