Description

ELCs provide a financial contribution towards a first full Level 3 qualification (Certificates and Diplomas), a first Foundation Degree, a first full undergraduate degree or national equivalents. There was even a pang of sadness as we ended our journey together, which they carefully prepared me for. Pete Sanders and Anja Rutten position therapy in contemporary society and render the theory, practice and origins of counselling understandable to all.

It contains all the basics that are helpful to know before starting the course and makes a great reference book. They also helpfully chart contemporary challenges, distinguishing professional, social and political features, including the recent tensions in the counselling and psychotherapy professions between medical and psychosocial, non-pathologising interpretations of mental health.Andy has published several articles and book chapters, mainly on the ethics and politics of the psychological professions and the person-centred approach.

I found it very helpful to read about different approaches in the beginning of the book, and the ways of obtaining certification to become a counsellor. If you change your mind about a course before it starts or during the first three weeks, we will happily transfer you to an alternative course - you may need to pay any difference in fees or have a credit note issued to you if the course is cheaper. I'd recommend it for people who are not familiar with academic/theoretical texts as it is written in a basic accessible style. A typical week will comprise learning core communication skills, practising a variety of strategies and learning basic communication and active listening skills. It aims to be your guide along whichever route you are taking, answer your questions and help you decide if you want to take your interest in counselling to the next steps.

It is designed as a taster to see if counselling is an area you may wish to continue with or as a personal journey of growth. One of those does what it says on the tin kind of text books; good overall introduction to counselling written in an accessible fashion and is highly interactive as it engages the student in written exercises as it goes along. This is not a ‘how to help’ manual; rather it is a questioning, curious, explorative and challenging companion. First Steps in Counselling continues to evolve in this fifth edition, ensuring that it remains the essential introduction to counselling and ‘counselling-informed helping’ for the 2020s.

In accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018, the information will only be used for the above mentioned purposes. In his highly acclaimed accessible style, Sanders covers all relevant areas of training at this level - theory, personal development and building helping skills. I am starting a CPCAB level 2 in October and this was the final book I needed to read to complete the course reading list. the qualification you wish to study isn’t on the approved list of level 3 qualifications the College can run for free.
