dynamics and impact: Despite the bass boost, the low end tends to be on the looser and slower side, with drums lacking the desired level of immediacy and punch. For some countries, it might take up to 2-3 months, depending on your country, its customs and other factors. Other that the coin and the headphones, we also get the cable (more on that in a second), a leather cable tie and a drawstring bag for storage. Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy launches this week, so let’s don our attorney badges and cross-examine this remastered collection featuring Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney, Phoenix.

Listening: GeneralThe Athena departs from a neutral tonal balance, but the deviations seem to compensate for my ears' reduced bass and treble sensitivity at typical listening volumes. Into the mid range the bottom half is not terrible as we move past the 1kHz region, there is a large dip that never really comes back until we are into the higher ranges. You can adjust them for any head shape and size, and they are generally extremely comfy, plus they swivel in every direction, making comfort a zero issue for any wearer.

It creates the sensation of being enveloped by the instruments, with the vocalist standing directly before you. Details are difficult to judge due to the overall signature of these headphones but if equalized properly, I feel that the driver is capable of more than it gives in this regard, even if it is not the fastest of drivers in the bass ranges (but again, that could be the reflections causing that sensation). Take "Oster Peterson Meets Roy Hargrove" (1996) - the analytical presentation helps me easily follow the musical narrative, similar to some TOTL cans. The ultra-fine voice coil features thinner strands wrapped more cohesively and tightly to better respond to the driver. Even if it were a more constrained listening experience, these would still be a solid recommendation for their exceptional comfort, but since it’s not, this really is a great choice for a hifi headphone on a budget.

To power the new 50mm diaphragm, we have developed a new high-performance ultra-fine voice coil and high-flux magnetic enclosure within the driver. They’re lighter weight and feel less premium as a result of all of that plastic, but the upside is that they’re more comfortable to wear and don’t necessarily feel any less durable. The ingenious introduction of glass adds the richness of texture and transforms the Athena into not just a competent HiFi headphone, but also a sophisticated decoration piece. Ultimately, the engaging sound signature works wonderfully for lengthy gaming sessions, even if it is unwieldy when mobile. It is not the first coin I have received with an audio product lately but it is a interesting way of providing the serial number. Personally I love giant over-ear headphones, my Beyerdynamic headphones are all big, and especially the Amiron Home is spacious and incredibly comfortable at that.

And I believe this discrepancy between measurement and perception is strongly associated with what ISO equal loudness contour around 80-90 phon suggests.I don't feel they will play well at extreme volumes, and while they are detailed they will not let you hear a fly fart like some other cans do. Athena can also handle a wide range of genres that I listen to -- from baroque pieces to modern jazz to kawaii/future bass tracks. It would have been nice to get a storage case that is a little more protective than the bag, especially as the headphones lay flat, but as long as the savings have gone into the headphones themselves, then I am not complaining. These are the first HarmonicDyne headphones I have tried but I am always looking out for a decent closed back set and if they are budget orientated, even better. HarmonicDyne wisely tuned the Athena for perceptual neutrality, given our ears' natural loudness contour.

Cons: bloated bass that bleeds into the mids; fuzzy and overly mellow midrange distorts vocal timbre; highs are relatively forward due to subdued upper mids; overall technical performance is unimpressive. While not strictly neutral, the frequency deviations aim to compensate for our ears' natural loudness contours.

The bass is tight and controlled, with excellent detail, providing a pleasing sense of warmth and depth without overwhelming the other frequencies. We listened to more songs than those named in this playlist, but those are excellent for identifying a sonic signature.
