About this deal

We found this game a little shorter to play than normal Monopoly which suited us really well given their ages (7 and 8). One of which is to successfully steal money from the Bank, which one of the players managed to pull off and claim the reward for just a few rounds into our game. Without the houses and hotels it’s actually a much simpler game for children to play, and shorter too! So, beyond the obvious introduction of Cheat cards and a handcuff unit, you’ll notice a couple of other differences here – there are fewer title deed cards, and no houses – only hotels. We also added funny new cheats,” Klimpert continues, “and we found the best way to bring each one to life.

Before the game starts, make a deal with another player to help one another out, but do not let any of the other players know. Then, they must take the penalty listed on the back of the cheat card, but if you falsely accused someone of cheating and they prove that they are innocent. You’re advised not to cheat here and give everyone an equal start – it’s more fun to try the cheats once the game has properly got going. We spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars spreading the word about The Next Evolution of Economics.

You may also catch cheaters and cheat (see CHEATING), but you may not play Chance or Community Chest cards (except for Get Out of Jail Free). There are five cheat cards placed in the centre of the game board and if you are caught then you either have to pay a fine or the person accusing you has to pay a fine. Instead, keep your money in a messy pile and it will be virtually impossible for anyone to know how much money you’ve actually got. However, if you plan to cheat then being the banker will give you a great advantage as you, quite literally, hold all the cards (and cash). According to a survey by Monopoly makers Hasbro, almost 50% of people admit to cheating during a game of Monopoly. As the worry about corporate consolidation became a partisan issue, “ the enforcement of anti-monopoly policy grew increasingly toothless.

If you know that you’re going to play Monopoly you can sneakily remove some money from the game and hide it in your pocket. There’s a chance that they’ll pay up without actually checking whether or not you own the title deed card. Monopoly, on the other hand, is meant to be a reusable template that never wears thin, and the fun comes from your choices and the unpredictable actions of your friends. Roll the dice, announce the number that you need and then quickly pick up the dice before anyone sees what it was that you rolled. The pretend handcuff unit that may leave players "chained" to the board is a really fun addition to the game.
