Whilst visiting the Hornville Museum with her Grampa an incident occurs in which all the lights go out and then it is discovered that someone had been murdered in a locked room and one of the exhibitions, an eagle, had been stolen. Murder mysteries are definitely on trend in the school library, and the children cannot get enough of them. Claire Powell’s illustrations bring so much personality to the characters and elevate Montgomery Bonbon from a brilliant mystery to an iconic character.

This is wonderful news for Bonnie, who hastily disguises herself as the world’s finest detective – Montgomery Bonbon – and begins looking for clues.She is desperate to be a detective and loves to solve clues and puzzles (and still has her own detective agency with her friends! Upon visiting the Hornville Museum with its eclectic displays, Bonnie and Grampa end up discovering a murder! He also slots in plenty of family-friendly jokes and even a few sneaky references for parents to chuckle over. And with ‘his’ trusty sidekick Grandpa Banks (the Watson to his Holmes), there’s no case they can’t solve. From the outset when her cheese and onion crisps cause a stir upon entry over the causeway, there are problems.
