no matter how tightly I cinch the ankle, my feet flop around and slide from side to side inside the shoe. My ankles are small so I have the left shoe on the tightest ankle strap hole, the right shoe on the 3rd hole (weird, guess my ankles are different or the shoe is?

They were actually comfy right out of the box (my old Arizonas never really got comfortable), I love the thiner straps and the ankle strap. I will say I had to cinch the ankle straps to the tightest hole which left long unattractive "ears" at each side, so I trimmed them down with some sharp scissors (photo is after trimming).
