The Fat Dogs Newsletter is a subscriber-only quarterly issue which includes excerpts from my latest book, and exclusives about our lives here in France.

I enjoyed catching up with old friends from previous books, especially the irascible but lovable Jack; and meeting more fascinating characters. Patrik's bubbling clarinet, Hallvard's sonorous sax and Gunnar's inventive trumpet each provide both improvisation and chords, playing off the melody and each other in constant movement. But life isn’t all fun; there’s a lot of hard work involved in running a domaine and much animal husbandry.A halling is a 2/4 dance found in Norway and Sweden, traditionally danced by men to show off their agility. Having no percussionist, the rhythm section is provided by the buzz of the hurdy-gurdy, the chug of the concertina and, on occasion, the thrash of a cittern. Add the predictable tussles with machinery, fencing, invasive critters, weather, mud, escaping poultry and of course, Jack (grumpy softie), and you can see why I read it in one sitting.

Our studios are used for broadcast productions, media training, marketing, internal communication, internal and external education and sophisticated video conferencing. If you have a dig around you’ll find information about my books and the places we visited during our domaine-hunting adventures.

But when Beth, her irascible husband Jack, and their two fat dogs set off, little did they know that it would become such an extraordinary journey.

During this time they had the opportunity to create studios for prime time television shows, broadcasted both nationally and internationally. FatDog's repertoire always has at least one foot in folk music, either taking a traditional song or tune as their point of departure or composing new ones in the folk idiom.
