Description

The Hedge Witch's Way is a guide for witches of either gender - potential wisewomen or wisemen - that presents the faerie-led practices of our ancestors, in a modern-day context.

I find her approach to 'Hedge Witch' craft is so in keeping with my Virgoan sense of no nonsense and practicality and yet with a deep and conscience driven approach to practicing that questions and answers the ethics of spell casting.I found it an interesting read, and though Beth is toted as one of the best references in this field of paganism, I found this book lacking in some areas. Unlike many other spiritual paths, paganism and witchcraft, although not a religion, have no one book to guide us. She offers multiple ways to hedge ride, including using a stang, meditation, and liminal spaces as portals. We recommend that you review the information on alternative medical therapies and consult with your doctor or other medical professional before making any decision regarding their use in your medical treatment. Somehow the book's feel, look and aroma bring me back to my 80s childhood and reading the "magical" books of Enid Blyton.

Penniless Pagan is another great blog for witches and pagans alike, whether you are starting out or advanced. Her exploration of the bond between hedge witchcraft and the natural world explained the significance of plants, animals, and the elements.

While reading I marked passages dealing with the Sabbat rituals and trance work so I could easily find these later to reference. The hedge riding section is rather comprehensive, and this part alone is worth the purchase of the book, even if you are experienced in the art of hedge riding. All content and photographs, unless otherwise noted, belong to Flying the Hedge and are not to be copied without our expressed permission. Having read Cunningham's "Wicca" and "Living Wicca", Hedge Witch by Rae Beth is a lovely follow-on that has a unique feel given it is written in letter form to two students in the late 1980s.

This section contains very basic correspondences and how to create your own spells, but she does support the Wiccan idea of harming none. Joanna provides a comprehensive, up to date and personal account of her hedge witch path and practices. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example.
