The original Fairview used 210D nylon mini hex diamond ripstop and then 600D packcloth fabric to give a two tone effect and also provide additional durability in wear points. I think if Osprey took away those 2 litres and make this bag truly a carry-on size without the day bag attached, it would make so much more sense. Osprey Fairview 55 (also available in 40L and 70L) is made from 210D Nylon Mini Hex Diamond Ripstop, making it durable yet lightweight. Good point actually, there isn’t really a handle on the daypack, what I was thinking of is the top of the harness which is sort of handle-shaped.

This insufficiency in comfort didn’t start ‘weighing’ on me until maybe the 3rd or 4th month of my travels so again it really depends on what type of traveller you are. Also, if you love having multiple pockets and storage options, this bag probably is not for you either. I used the daypack fairly often, especially during more adventurous activities, including a Mount Batur sunrise trek in Bali. Ideal for longer travels, the Osprey Fairview 55 can be carried like a backpack but packed like a suitcase, and has a smaller detachable daysack that's the perfect companion for city exploring while you leave your main pack at the hostel.

As a beginner/intermediate backpack, the Osprey Fairview 55 is the best of both worlds, containing both a great sized main compartment with the useful 13L daypack. Overall, the zippers are thick and robust and refrained from snagging during our time with this pack, and we were pleasantly surprised by how easily the daypack zipped on and off.
