We meet Zoe who has become separated from her parents in the last evacuation of Norwich, and left behind. Zoe as a character was fleshed out enough to get a sense of her goals and motivations but I didn't really identify with her.He has published novels such as Floodland (winner of the Branford Boase Award in 2001) and The Dark Horse (shortlisted for The Guardian Children's Book Award 2002). Even though it takes so many years for an island to completely sink, I noticed that if we don't have any interest on global warming, things will go much faster than we expected. Many of your novels are inspired by history and by myth and legend - have these areas always been a fascination of yours since childhood and if so how did this passion come about?

I don't know why I was fascinated by these stories, but maybe simply because I find them to be more glamorous than contemporary stories.Put this together with the feral survival of the children on the Island of Eels and you have Floodland. This book was picked at my 9 year old son’s school for literacy - I suppose to help children develop skills in, among other things, character analysis and building. Sedgwick's writing is as usual top-notch, literate and engaging, with characters who come to life on the page. At first Dooby wanted to escape the island with Zoe, abandoning all his people, but Zoe refused after seeing Dooby's violence. saw Marcus turn his attention to books for younger readers with the launch of a humorous new series: The Raven Mysteries, narrated by a grumpy raven, Edgar.
