Description

Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett is a great animal story to use in EYFS and KS1 when covering a journeys or animals topic. There's so much to enjoy, from the newspaper cuttings on the endpapers to the wittily accurate information about each mongoose species Sunny visits on his journey. This book takes you on a journey with a meerkat who is looking for a home that suits him better than his current family home. Emily Gravett's colourful yet sparse illustrations cleverly depict a bumbling bear interacting in many different and imaginative ways with the fruit mentioned in the title. I was a little disappointed with the finish of the book because I had to glue several of the flaps back down before I'd even read it.

Sunny lives on an arid plain with his extensive and loving meerkat family; they work together, play together and together do their best to stay away from jackals! Emily Gravett is twice winner of the CILIP Kate Greenaway Medal and the Nestlé Children's Book Prize Bronze Award for Wolves and Little Mouse's Big Book Of Fears.
