Although, too much dialogue would bloat the A5 sized novel and force it into a standard graphic novel, so it's a trade off I suppose. Still, with the real Spider-Man nowhere to be found, the city needs someone to save it… (simonandschuster, n,d). This book is fast-paced and pulls no punches with its fun or its focus on our character of Yu getting in over his head when he decides to play Spider-Man for a while in the real Spidey's absence. Be Careful What You Wish For: Yu admires Spider-Man and tries to emulate him even a little by taking up bouldering. Naturally as a teenager he tries it on, goes outside and starts posing and taking pictures of himself only to hear someone screaming for help.

Yusuke Osawa really gave this story his all, and as a stand-alone installment in what we now can regard as a Spider-Man multiverse, I've already got a huge soft spot for it. At the end, she appears to ultimately decide that he's worth forgiving for the deception, even helping him out. Yusuke Osawa began his professional manga career with the publication of the one-shot “Majo to Megane to Mahojin” (A Witch, Her Glasses, and a Magic Circle) in the July 2009 issue of Magazine Special, and won honorable mention in the 82nd Weekly Shonen Magazine New Manga Artist Awards. I’m not a manga reader and it’s not my usual type of read, but I’m a Spider-Man girly and couldn’t resist giving it a go!Despite the risks to himself, Yu is driven to continually masquerading as the real Spider-Man because he feels it's what Spidey would do in his shoes.

Seeing the parallels with Peter's real struggles with Yu figuring out what he wants to do with his new found suit and webs. An awkward teenager puts on Spider-Man’s suit, but quickly learns being a hero isn’t all photo ops and social media likes. Unsure that the real spidy can help anyone without his suit, Yu makes a choice that’ll change him in more ways than one. One caveat though is I do think this book is aimed at a younger audience as character motivations don’t get too deep and the end leans into near fan fiction at times, but i recommend it all the same. The bullies leave and Toby walks out, Yu attempts to apologize to Toby feeling guilty for not attempting to help him. Spider-Man: Fake Red has great artwork, which includes well-drawn action sequences, and is filled with plenty of easter eggs that fans of Marvel will be quick to catch! THEN the narrative begins to explore the reason for the genuine Spider-Man's disappearance, and one of his trusty A-list villains finally arrives on the scene to reveal his diabolical plot as well as mistaking Yu for his intended target.
