It is clear that the author knows the area well, but maybe too well as I couldn't really conjure a vivid picture of the setting in my mind. As much as I love the DCI Ryan series, I'm really enjoying the Alexander Gregory books and Hysteria is the second instalment of that series. I have long been a fan of another series by this author concerning DCI Ryan and his team of police detectives, set in the north of England.

Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst the spectacular Parisian landscape. Although it hasn't knocked Imposter off my Alexander Gregory number one spot, I really enjoyed it and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Gregory's internal conflicts and interpersonal relationship challenges directly influenced the storyline, especially how they linked back to Book 1. I can recommend this book and this series to anyone who enjoys a good mystery that will keep them guessing. The beauty of this character is that being a psychologist he is not tied down to any one place, allowing LJ Ross to spread her wings and take Gregory to far off countries with limitless opportunity for intrigue. He is still suffering from his demons that we saw in Impostor but there is also some glimmer of hope for him as he gets close to someone that he originally meets by chance but is also found to be caught up in the case. The story also encompasses relevant issues concerning women in the working environment where men are in positions of power.Having read and loved Imposter I was SO excited to read Hysteria and I don’t know how LJ Ross does it, but each book is as awesome as, if not better, than the last! I enjoyed the story (although had to suspend reality for some of it) but my enjoyment was spoiled slightly by segments of untranslated French in the text.

I’m really looking forward to seeing what comes in book three, and hoping that this series will continue on as Gregory is a character who has a lot to give.
