About this deal

She was essential for my mental health and became a rock for me during the complicated birth of my son. Sometimes a book goes temporarily out of print - and sometimes no audio version has ever been recorded. And remember, if your baby is under three months and has a fever, seek medical attention straight away.

Also I believe self soothing is such a bogus concept for an infant, anyone with an older child knows that self regulation (calming and rationalizing emotions and behaviors) is something we have to continue to model and guide children into. D. and co-author Gary Ezzo are two of the world's leading experts on baby sleep and feeding patterns.I would think it’s recommended, especially by two nurses, to be responsive to such a thing, and maybe a video monitor would be a good idea (never mentioned). However, the routines established courtesy of this book have really helped to make sleep possible no matter where we are (at home on the East coast, traveling on the East coast, in Chicago, or even Hawaii). A friend of mine highly recommended it for sleep training purposes, but I didn't think much about it. Navigating the world of infant feeding can be overwhelming for new parents, especially when you’re faced with a sea of conflicting advice.

One detail you will see over and over again in our resources is the role that white noise from sound machines plays in a great night’s sleep and daytime naps. These simple lists and explanations are essential when you have no time for fluff and need a quick answer on how to parent your child. And honestly my mental health was in such rough shape for those first 3 – 4 months so it was nice to have something to look to when I could barely take care of myself. Even if we can't get a bath in, or if we have to give him a bottle out at dinner instead of at home right before bed, once we wipe him down and/or put on his PJs and hit the white noise machine (Hatch Baby Rest at home or a portable one for travel), he knows the deal.I was planning to follow the little ones again for this baby but He cannot stay awake long enough to get it to work. With the backdrop of white noise, a brief rock in your arms can be the final lullaby before they're off to dreamland. Some of this information really surprised me (baby sleeping not in your room and daily baths for example…both not recommended by our local baby 101 class) but other portions of this were super informative where I knew NOTHING about before (like starting to feed babies solids). Everything that modern parents need to know about caring for babies in the first 6 months, including: step-by-step guidelines for getting babies on a routine, hour-by-hour schedules at a glance, symptoms that warrant a trip to the emergency room and feeding instructions for breast, bottle and both!

I’m sure there is the odd useful tip but because of the complete lack of information and disregard for current scientific evidence I would caution against following any advice in this book.

This is a judgement-free zone to ask and provide tips, ask questions, and share success stories about sleep-training your little ones. Each item has specifications of when you should seek medical attention, which can be really helpful to inform those who are not familiar for what is normal for children. What to Expect When You're Expecting meets Freakonomics: an award-winning economist disproves standard recommendations about pregnancy to empower women while they're expecting.
