I am not usually a lover of multi perspective stories, however, Sarah Pinborough has used perspectives to drive this book in an unparalleled and superlative manner. We see the story from the point of view of a mother, of her daughter, of her friend, and later, from a stranger. We experience the idiosyncrasies of each character, their flaws and their motives from their points of view, but we also see the direct affect that it has on the other characters as a direct result. Sarah also used this storytelling method to drip feed information all over the place. Some pieces are red herrings, or we deliberately don’t have enough information to create the correct narrative. It was this technique that really took my breath away and allowed me to experience the mystery in a way I hadn’t fully experienced before. The book is split into short chapters on a timeline of before, now and after and also split into it being told from the perspective of one of the main characters. This book does not need me to go into the plot as this is definitely best coming in blind. The beginning was little slow but this was due to the scene setting and character familiarisation which in hindsight gave this a good base and it was probably only slow due to my neediness to dig deeper into this chilly thriller. I give it five stars because it’s original, disturbing, harrowing, twisty and complex. Don’t miss it! The thriller begins as many do—with an ordinary woman. Lisa is a shy, slightly neurotic single mother who lives for work, her daughter, and her best friend. But Lisa is far from normal. In fact, she’s hiding a horrifying secret, and when her past misdeeds are revealed to her daughter—and the world—the novel takes a whiplash-inducing swerve. Because Lisa isn’t the only one with a secret. Her daughter, Ava, has been messaging an older man on Facebook, and he’s not who he claims to be.

This was just a fantastic, fast paced, wonderful book. I most definitely will be looking at the rest of the series as well as anything else this author has written. If you love a good, suspenseful mystery, then this book is for you. Although the mother / teenager relationship initially appears pretty standard there’s much hidden. Multiple narrators in Lisa, Ava and Lisa’s friend Marilyn tell the story. Lisa’s story is also divided into three timelines, Before, After and Now. It sounds complicated but it’s honestly not and the story weaves seamlessly from one timeline to the next.CROSS HER HEART (Bree Taggert Book #1) by Melinda Leigh is the first book in a new romantic suspense/thriller series that has everything I look for in this genre. A strong, intelligent female protagonist, an engaging cast of secondary characters and a thrilling, intense plot that keeps you on the edge of your seat which all come together in this exceptional debut. This romantic suspense tale thrusts readers into the action, with one heart-racing, adrenaline-filled scene after another. Leigh’s (Morgan Dane series) vulnerable yet strong lead characters add depth to an exciting new series.” — Library Journal Lisa is one of three strong female characters hiding their devastating secrets from the world in this story. Her daughter Ava has her own issues to deal with including an overprotective mother, exams and pressure from her friends to move her relationship with her boyfriend to the next level. Then we also have Marilyn, Lisa's best friend who's perfect life isn't the idyllic picture she paints on a daily basis. I adored all three of these characters. As Pinborough tantalisingly revealed their secrets and dropped another bombshell on her reader, how much I liked them varied quite dramatically - and I found that utterly fascinating.

All in all, it was riveting and I was always reluctant to put it down. It's a great start to a new series and I can't wait for more. Romantic suspense and thriller romance fans who like it moderately gritty with a well developed plot and cast of characters should give this a go.I liked Matt, who is being set up as Bree’s future love interest. He’s a good guy; dependable and supportive, he clearly cares a lot for Justin, and comes to care for and respect Bree and her abilities as an investigator. There’s the merest frisson of attraction between them at this stage, but fingers crossed that will develop as the series progresses. Dana is a great addition to the family unit; Bree’s closest friend and work-partner, she’s about to retire from the force and goes to Grey’s Hollow to deliver Bree’s cat Vader (!) and to help out while Bree decides what she’s going to do next. Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review. Sarah Pinborough writes wonderfully engrossing portrayals of these women, bringing their conflicting emotions to the forefront of the storyline. And that turned one of the plot points into an impossible dilemma for me, especially as it contained an act of unspeakable evil and violence. My favourite character was probably Marilyn. She has a lot going on with herself when Lisa’s world caves in, and yet she manages to step up and carry on with life. She is a very strong woman who makes some excellent decisions, which makes this an excellent book for women in unhappy marriages to read. They will either recognise themselves and their own situations, or they will see that their lives are really not too bad after all.

A powerful, twisty thriller with characters that stay with you long after you've finished’ Michelle Frances, bestselling author of The GirlfriendSarah Pinborough does it again with this disturbing descent into a heart of darkness. Highly recommended. Cass Hunter Bree and Matt do not realize how closely the killer is watching. Once again, Bree’s family is in danger and she may be the next Taggart in the line of fire. This is the first full-sized book in the Bree Taggert series. Bree had a traumatic childhood caused by an abusive father who eventually killed her mother before turning the gun on himself. For this reason, Bree was very hesitant to return to her hometown and the memories that came with it. But Bree needs to uncover what was happening in her sister's life, if not for herself, then for Erin's two children.

It’s a gripping story of women and struggle, of love and friendship, of secrets, betrayal and lies.

Leigh also shows us the third person POV of Matt Flynn. Matt is best friend's with Erin's husband, who has gone missing after Erin's murder. Matt previously worked as a K-9 unit with the sheriff's department before something happened that had him leaving. Which all play out well, until small daily occurrences, start to set off Lisa and she doesn’t know who she can trust!
