One of my favorite chapters is told from Tsung’s point-of-view. Titled “Midnight,” this episode reveals Tsung’s love for the prostitute, Moon Swan. Though she entertains many of the soldiers in Xau’s army, Tsung doesn’t care, and Moon Swan also loves him. But both are reluctant to show their true feelings for each other. Really moving and skillfully written. Over the years, the queen pretended to grieve Ebony’s disappearance. Now, as she stood preening in front of the mirror she asked, “Magic mirror that sees all, who is the loveliest of them all?”

The heart that belongs to Aldrik C. Solaris. The beautiful, stubborn, damaged Fire Lord whose development was astonishing. From now on, every time I'll read YA fantasy I will compare the male characters to him, and no one will live up to his imperfect perfection. It is exactly right…” replies the elder woman, drawing on all the experience of her 43 years as Queen. “To do nothing is the hardest job of all, and it will take every ounce of energy that you have. To be impartial is not natural, not human. People will always want you to smile or agree or frown, and the moment you do, you will have declared a position, a point of view — and that is the one thing as Sovereign that you are not entitled to do. The less you do, the less you say, or agree, or smile…” As sometimes happens in creating a new world, the book starts a little slowly introducing Xau, the new king of Meqing, and his royal household. The new king is scrawny, cranky, kind, brash, and wise in turns. Mostly he is a work in progress.George VI, the father of the current queen, summed up his daughters’ personalities when he once said, “Elizabeth is my pride, and Margaret is my joy.” In 1937, for example, while trying on their robes for their father’s coronation, the six-year-old Margaret was said to have thrown a fit when she discovered that the purple velvet train edged with ermine behind her ceremonial outfit was cut slightly shorter than that of her elder sister. It wasn’t fair, she complained, and she flung herself to the floor in a tantrum. Only when it was explained to her that the two sisters’ trains had been designed in direct proportion to their height – and that Lilibet was nearly four inches taller – was the Princess placated, and then only grudgingly so. ‘What a good thing,’ courtiers would murmur, ‘that Margaret is the younger one.’ Just like the series on Netflix, this book primarily focuses on the first three years after Elizabeth II's ascension, covering her coronation, the scandal of her sister's love affair with divorcee Peter Townsend, the decline of Winston Churchill, and so much more. This volume is filled with historical photographs as well as stills from the show. All the major players are given a biographical sketch, if not entire sections devoted to who they were and how their lives interacted with the Queen and the royal family. It's highly informative and yet easy to read, especially for devoted history fans. the top or highest part of anything, such as of a hat or the head: a little bald spot on the crown of his head. None of these stories have a sense of Eucatastrophe or it's poorly executed cousin Deus ex Machina. They feel more sanitized than Disney in many places, and disjointed because they are trying to blend several elements from different cultures together but without fully paying attention to the original cultural contexts or coding in the stories. For example, Hansel and Gretel is quite baffling to me because its origin is most likely in blood libel cases against Jewish midwives during the medieval period who were attempting to use ovens as a proto incubator to help premature babies survive, and this was misunderstood even though sleeping on or near the stove in winter to keep warm was a common practice. A more interesting retelling would have been to remove the witch as a villain and go with misunderstood character rather than have the Big Bad Wolf one be about that.

The queen was consumed by rage, and again she hatched a dark plot. She transformed into an old crone in a hooded robe and moments later appeared in the woods where Ebony sat under an apple tree. We all believe in you two. We are all fighting for you. Do you know why?” She shook her head. She didn’t have the faintest idea. Vibrant photography and dynamic storytelling combine in this affirming and celebratory volume." - KirkusNo,” Aliyah said, gazing out to the sea. “I’m going home.” And she knew she could, for her act of selflessness had broken the spell. “But I won’t forget you,” she said with a big smile. Mechanical Engineeringa slight convexity given to the outer faces of the teeth of two gears so that they mesh toward their centers rather than at the ends. After spending almost a month rereading this books, I can officially admit to myself that this is, 100% without doubt, my absolute favorite series in the entire world.

Ed cultivated Pepper X on his farm for over 10 years, cross breeding it with some of his hottest peppers to increase its capsaicin content. It's also not the easiest book to follow on audio because of the format, which tends to follow individual people rather than work chronologically. So key events in the timeline are covered over and over: (Then) Princess Elizabeth and Prince Phillip "set off to Kenya", Winston Churchill steps down multiple times - to name a few examples. These are the ones that caught my attention, I'm pretty sure there are loads of less prominent events that I missed simply because I didn't remember them happening when they were covered first time around. The narrator also wasn't great. CROWNED by Kahran and Regis Bethencourt is a book designed to foster and encourage imagination, equipping young kings and queens with the creativity and ability to overcome any obstacles in their way.I can do that and so much more,” replied the witch. “But a mermaid you will never again be. You will be human but the watery kingdom you will never again see. For that is the price of the wish I will grant thee. So think hard, because happiness is never guaranteed, regardless if you are a mermaid, a human, or anything in between.” The emotional impact is considerable, as well; which is another reason for writers of prose to pay attention. Xau is trying very hard to be such a ruler as any of us, on our best days, would hope to be. The result brought tears to this reader's eyes on several occasions. This series really was amazing to read. I'm already eager to read it again in a few months or years to relive this adventure. Crystal Crowned is darker and bloodier than all the previous books. Victor is so much more villain than the Emperor and the atrocities committed in Crystal Crowned are bloody and gory. The main characters are trying to survive, to hide, and to rally the West and the East to their cause. They are trying to save the world even though it feels hopeless in the face of Victor's new powers. Vhalla is drowning in her insecurities and her despair, she tries to keep it all to herself, not to burden anyone with it, but it's smothering her. Red Riding Hood: hammers home that rumors may not be true, but completely misses the point of the original fairy tale being about being cautious because not all adults have honest intentions towards children and other vulnerable people. It turns it into not judging a book by its cover in an attempt to rehabilitate wolves. Look I love wolves, and don't think they always need to be the villain. But this felt like a bait and switch and I don't see why this one's moral had to be changed.

to bring to a successful or triumphant conclusion: He crowned his great career with the Nobel prize. an ornamental wreath or circlet for the head, given as an award or a mark of victory or distinction: a crown of laurel leaves. I guess this review will not be a proper review, but me just being mad at some things that made me too uncomfortable. Take it with a grain of salt, because at some points it just might be reaching. Vhalla is also showing us a new side of her. A more dark and savage side that had me a little uneasy at times. We are far far far from the little library apprentice, but at the same time she endured so much and she also has the weight of her guilt because she knows that Victor is in this position of power now because of her. She knows that she is the one who needs to stop him and kill him even if she risks losing herself to a darker part of her in the process. It is what she needs to do to atone for her mistake. The Little Mermaid: good moral about choosing to do good and be selfless even to the point of risking your life to save someone who is being a bully to you, but not at all either the Disney version or the original Hans Christian Anderson version. The costuming and sets are a clear reference to the Disney version as is the wanting to have legs, but the way the sea witch is written is closer to the Anderson version. There is no discussion of souls or any of the other deeper theological questions in the original Little Mermaid and the point about otherness doesn't come across as strongly. The story is in some ways too short and abrupt.

I don't even know where to start with this book, it was so UNCOMFORTABLE. My biggest problem were Vhaldrik (aka Aldrik&Vhalla being raging, irresponsible and stupid teenagers (when they're freaking adults)). First of all, all their interactions made me cringe so much. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHY. Sometimes they were too sugary (seriously, this amount of sugar is very bad for your health), sometimes they were very annoying, sometime Like Tolkien, she seems to be aware that the central icon of the Eurasian mythos is the horse; and she makes considerable use of that icon. Just as I look forward to season 2 of The Crown, (which Netflix releases December 8th, 2017) I will look forward to Volume 2 of the Official Companion series. I very much enjoyed reading Volume 1. When Ebony was two years old, the queen again asked, “Magic mirror that sees all, who is the loveliest of them all?” Sadness was not a feeling Aliyah was used to, for she had the whole of the sea and all its creatures to play with. But the more she longed to be human the sadder she became. She no longer delighted in the feel of the sun on her fishtail or the way the light bounced off her scales.
