About this deal

Thank you for sharing your insights in such a deepening and articulate way, you have such a finesse in what you share and convey your information with such cogency, that If I didn’t already own it, I would run out to find it now. There are some distinct differences in many of the cards. For example, the fives don’t always represent contention. The 5 of Shells is a positive card with hope, repair, and change. The 5 of Feathers (which the 5 of Swords typically means competition and fighting) means integrity, patience, and acceptance. Tarot divination is also about bonding with the cards as they teach and guide us. The Native Americans believe we’re guided by spirit animals who bond with us. They walk beside and guide us on our life’s journey. Combining the animals with the tarot interpretations makes me think of double guidance.

So essentially, both upright and reversed energies are always there, and it depends on which way the person takes it. The mysteries of the paranormal have always been an influence in Paulina's work. Having experienced and researched the paranormal for most of her life, Paulina says, "ghosts and other interdimensional beings are everywhere, and they're often trying to communicate with us from various layers in our space and time. Every house I've ever lived in has had some form of spirit activity, as does the house in which we're now living. I welcome them here because they're quiet, respectful spirits. They like being here. I often sense energy shifts and can often tell when spirits are present. Most of them mean well and I welcome them, as long as there's always a mutual respect, and as long as they don't try to zap my energy. That's where I draw the line." In Spiritsong, the archetypal meanings of the Tarot are phrased in cross-cultural legendary beliefs about animals. The Spiritsong animals are sympathetic mentors and guides, mediators between our world and spirit world. Each animal acts as a portal to deeper understanding of ourselves and our lives. Another difference that you may discover is that the upright keywords are all positive, while the reversed keywords are all negative. More on upright and reversed below. Shamans use dream realms to reach the deepest levels of consciousness where true passions, intentions, and desires reside. The artwork represents this cultural doorway into the dream realm as the colors of the symbols aren’t overwhelming. It has a faded effect. However, the animals are realistic, clear, and embellished. Most people bond easily with it, and it has vast capabilities due to the myriad of guidebooks available. Cassidy is a pen and watercolour artist, so her palette features a spectrum of gorgeous and delicate colours, in subtle yet vibrant arrangements. The scans, by the way, do not do justice to the brilliance of the colours. There a six spreads included which she has divided into four tarot spreads and two oracle spreads. I wouldn’t differentiate the two, but she has, so I did. There is an element of fantasy or magical realism to Cassidy’s work as well. Her detailing is also impeccable. Just zoom in to look at her work up close. Can you imagine yourself sitting there with a fine-tipped pen rendering all of those little dots? Yeah. Exactly. Props to Cassidy. Paulina works from her home studio where she creates, paints and writes for most of her waking hours, catering to the constant demands of her little muses. A solitary witch, Paulina resided in the New Orleans area from 2005 to 2007. New Orleans is a city that Paulina and her husband Kevin both love dearly, and still consider it home. Paulina and Kevin now live in Chattanooga, Tennessee, with their two feline furbabies, Mortimer and Lilith.

Paulina Cassidy has produced a lacy, delicate work, with the animal allies rendered in pastel colors. But do not underestimate Spiritsong Tarot’s power! Spiritsong’s animal messengers teach profound mysteries gently, always choosing to inspire rather than to intimidate. Finally, rather than seeing a cloaked skeleton riding a horse or some version of a grim reaper the Spiritsong Tarot Death card is a cicada – a transformative insect. Cicadas lay eggs on trees. When the egg hatches, the nymph falls to the ground and burrows underground where, in Australia, it remains for around six or seven years before it surfaces, releases itself and flies away to find a mate and create a new cycle. It may be hard to go through certain events, but generally something good comes from them – a new perspective, renewed strength, new situations and opportunities for example. I found myself agreeing with all of the animal spirit correspondences that Cassidy selected. The Majors here are beautifully done. There’s some remaining, such as Shaman for the Hierophant, Love in lieu of the Lovers, etc.The illustrations are striking, prepossessing, and just bewitching. The illustrations don’t make perfect sense at first, but they catch your eyes. Each card is beautifully designed in watercolor with fine details, intricate symbolism, and titles based on spirit animals and shamanism. The gradient images create a dream-like element. The fives are the biggest difference. The ones in each suit of the Spiritsong still suggest movement and beginnings, and the twos do still represent choices.

The matte finished hardboard and colorful box (US Games usually has cheesy low-grade and quality flimsy cardboard boxes, but they are starting to improve in this area…this may be a choice made between the author and the publisher) Paulina's world is filled with magical creatures born of creative intuition and limitless imagination. She draws and brushes them into our world with love and an essence of herself. Having spent much of her time drawing from a very young age, Paulina finds solace in creating and sharing her own magical brew of whimsy. Her unique vision, style and fanciful designs are loved and collected worldwide. The suit of Shells corresponds with the suit of Cups. Here, the shamanic medicine that the spirit animals from the suit of Shells bring help balance the emotional plane, bring harmony, peace, fertility, and can further connect you to water spirits or water deities. The symbols form intricate patterns that fade into the dream-like element, but you can clearly see what you need to. The patterns cause a live energy effect that strongly influences your mind and divination. The other side of this debate is whether the cards represent traditional figures and illustrations for easy interpretations. Born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, she reflects, "my kind-hearted imaginary monster was perhaps not so imaginary afterall. I've been drawing ever since I can remember, and alternate worlds/dimensions have always been very real and very close by for me." From eagles to wolves, spirit animals are an old history of Native Americans. Combine the animals with the power of interpretive tarot spreads, and you have a double divination process with each reading. In fairness, the illustrations can be confusing for some readers, even seasoned ones. There is a delicacy to Cassidy’s art style that easily facilitates a lucid dream state and in that lucid dream state, one might better navigate the landscape of our mind. Spiritsong brings a sophisticated ethereal quality to the art of tarot reading that also functions as calling cards for invoking animal spirits for spiritual guidance. Beautifully done.

It was originally created by Pamela Smith and Arthur Waite, published by the Rider Company in 1909. Death becomes Transformation (which certainly removes the typical misconception that death means the worst) A Reiki practitioner, Paulina dedicates time each day to this healing practice. She's been a student of energy medicine for over 10 years & applies her studies in energy healing to her visual art. She is also a kundalina yoga practitioner, and has been a vegetarian/vegan for 20+ years. Despite their soft colours, the cards are still vibrant and well distinguishable. Even in a bigger spread they will be well readable; their softness doesn’t take away from their individuality. One of my personal favourites is the Firefly on the Five of Shells. Its glow warms the soul even if – or maybe because – it isn’t a harsh, screaming cascade of reds and oranges. The Concept

For each card, there are sections on “Message,”“Keywords,”“Reversed Message,” and “Reversed Keywords”. I am someone who does not read reverse cards, and if you’re also someone who prefers to keep all their cards upright, then this is important to note. The Major Arcana has undergone a few name changes – 0 The Fool is now The Traveller, V The Hierophant has been renamed 5 The Shaman, VI The Lovers is now simply 6 Love, XV The Devil is 15 The Shadow, and XX Judgment is now 20 Awakening. I’m not sure on The Lovers change but I like the others. As I alluded to earlier, the suits have been renamed too. Swords are Feathers, Wands are Acorns, Cups are Shells and Pentacles are now Crystals. I feel these work well on many levels. In addition, I like that she didn’t try to make all the Shell cards water dwelling animals and so on. The animals represent the meaning rather than the elemental association. That being said I love the two “horses” that represent the King of Acorns and the King of Shells. The Spiritsong Tarot Book
