I would like to thank #KLSlater, #NetGalley and #Bookouture for an ARC of #TheGirlfriend in exchange for an honest review. Fantastically written with some excellent characters and twists and turns that you will not see coming. Was the story a tad crazy? Probably. I still loved it! It was also nice to get a glimpse into publishing business. You have no idea what’s happening and even if you think you do, nope, you don’t. Brilliant, I say it’s brilliant! But as I start reading Philippa’s new novel, I start to wonder if it’s no coincidence that I’ve been chosen to narrate it. Every character is well done and all have secrets and agendas, most are telling lies and all seem to be converging on Darcy to ruin her perfect romance

Loved!!!!! Devoured in just a few sittings. It was just that good. In fact, it was her best book to date so far. It had so many twists and turns. I was hardly able to keep up. This author is one of my favorites and this book proved why. It kept me guessing the whole way through. I never knew what was going to happen next and I had to race through each chapter like it was the last just so I could find out the truth... I loved it...' Blue Moon Blogger, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better and better… I absolutely loved this latest instalment of DI Kim Stone and couldn’t put the book down from the off, grabbing any moment I could to read on. But it was Jennifer's secret that surprised me...or did it? OK, so I had an inkling. But only a teensy one...lol

Publication Order of Standalone Novels

This book was a nail biter! It had suspense, intrigue, murder, and so many crazy twists and turns! The storyline was very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book! It was definitely worth reading!' Netgalley reviewer, ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cole Fincham and wife Jennifer and their two children, their thirteen-year-old son, Miller and their five-year-old daughter, Sylvie have the perfect life…or do they? Darcy is a single mum, having lost her husband 4 years earlier. She has 2 boys and would do anything for them. One afternoon at the park one of her boys falls from the play equipment and George comes to the rescue. Gerorge is a doctor and also a single parent. The pair start dating and soon Darcy is moving in with George. Then the mystery parcelas ans letters start coming and George admits that his ex girlfriend is a bit unstable and is stalking him. But things are not adding up and Darcy begins to wonder who she can trust. When her life and that of her boy she is in danger she has to trust her gut.

I found the book very engrossing, and the characters are well developed – especially that of Eve. I also liked how Hugo’s irritating and Chad’s obsessive behaviours are portrayed. There is a big twist at the end, which I did not see coming. As happens with books written in this style, the tie-up of the strands of the story is only partial. The characters were very one-dimensional and the plot, particularly towards the end, ludicrous. This could have been an absolutely brilliant book, but it falls well short of that mark. I know I am in the minority here, but this was a very disappointing read for me. Jennifer’s world falls apart when she hears that her husband Cole has died in a Car accident. But a few days later her life is going to get worse when there is a woman at the front door claiming to Cole’s girlfriend with a baby in tow, who is the spitting image of Cole. The woman Sarah also claims that has saved their business buy buying into it which means the house and everything in it is hers. At first Jennifer thinks she is going to be evicted. When instead of evicting her, she wants to move in. The books main character is single mother Darcy and her life suddenly crashes when her son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground. Her sons limp lifeless body lies on the floor with Darcy feeling helpless only to be saved by George a local off duty doctor.

Advance Praise

Best-selling crime author Philippa Roberts vanished on the night she was widely anticipated to win a prestigious writing award. Nearly a year later, Philippa is still missing but an unpublished manuscript of the tenth installment of her famous DI Towers series has been discovered in her attic. The publisher calls upon the series’ long-time narrator Eve to record the audiobook version. As she delves into the new book, Eve is troubled when she discovers glaring inconsistencies with Philippa’s earlier work. Convinced that something sinister has happened to Philippa, Eve puts on her amateur detective hat and tries to unravel Philippa’s mysterious disappearance. But someone out will stop at nothing to keep Eve from finding out the truth. Philippa Roberts, a famous bestselling author, disappears without a trace during a trip to accept a writing award. Philippa's colleague Eve follows a series of intricate clues in hopes of finding her. Why would someone harm Philippa? What motivated them? Money or jealousy? Crazy much? But Jennifer really has no choice unless she wants to be homeless. This whole idea sounds so mad, but it works brilliantly in its own way. I was waiting for what Sara would have come up with next. My world implodes when she tells me that she is my husband’s girlfriend, that the baby in her arms is his son, and that she owns our cherished family home. It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

An author, an assistant, a narrator, and an obsessive book club fan collide in this thrills-by-the-minute twisty psychological suspense thriller— THE NARRATOR by the "queen" of thrills, K. L. Slater. Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own. After they do, Jennifer begins to notice some strange coincidences. An identical bracelet to hers on Sara's wrist. An all-too-willing attitude to step in and parent Jennifer's children...as if they were her own. A mysterious silver cell phone hidden in Sara's underwear drawer, holding secrets that lead Jennifer to question whether Cole's accident was even an accident at all... and what exactly does The Girlfriend who just can't let go have in store? One day, she gets a call from the publishing company that a new manuscript has been found and they are asking Eve to narrate the audio version. But it means that she must move to London and leave her daughter with her mother. But her ex-husband Hugo has other ideas. This is good light read, with a loveable and interesting character in Eve as an audiobook narrator.

months earlier. The latest installment of the best-selling Tower series is set to receive the smoking gun award for the crime fiction award of the year. Years of hard work and the ultimate payoff. I think that is because literally EVERYONE in this book..could be good..or could be evil. It is not one mystery to solve..it is about half a dozen. The book throws us clues but really we do not know who is unreliable..including the narrator and who isn't. There is not one character you do not question and as a result, one's curiosity keeps going up as the book goes on . Not even the wonderfully played ex in laws of her previous hubby, you couldn’t wish for a better couple to love to hate in a book Two years earlier, she was living her perfect life with Hugo and 5 yr old daughter Scarlett. All has changed. EXCERPT: The simple fact of the matter is that she doesn't belong with him. She's getting in the way and acting so selfishly.

Wow!!! This book is fantastically written and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end. The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout. The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline. About a year later, the tenth novel suddenly appears! Eve has narrated the previous books and is asked to do the audiobook again. Soon she discovers inconsistencies between the manuscript and the Philippa she knows. Are these sign last something is wrong?! Is she right to be worried about leaving her daughter with her ex husband? What is the grand plan in all of this? Jennifer and Cole have the perfect life – a gorgeous and newly renovated home, two darling children, and a loving marriage – until the day the police show up on the doorstep with the devastating news that Cole was in a horrible car accident and didn’t survive. Jennifer’s life couldn’t possibly get worse until it does –a gorgeous young woman named Sara rings the doorbell, declaring that she was Cole’s girlfriend and that the baby on her hip is Cole’s son. Now her food is in my fridge and her beautiful clothes are in the wardrobe in our master bedroom, yet as she helps me with chores and plays games with my little daughter, there’s a part of me that’s glad I’m not on my own. And as we sip wine at the kitchen table, I wonder if we could even become friends…Single was a good read. Perfect for mystery fans. To say it had a bit of drama going on is putting it mildly! When Eve starts reading the script for the audio, she notices something weird. She knows this author's work because she narrated all the series' books. This book does not seem like the writing of Philippa Roberts. Is she trying to send a hidden message? On top of this, more bad news. Her dad disappeared, and they found him at a bottom of a river. Her successful husband, Hugo, was having an affair with Sasyik (her colleague and friend) and is now pregnant and living in a beautiful countryside estate.
