Description

This is a 32-inch 1440p IPS monitor with a maximum refresh rate of 180Hz. It's essentially a larger version of LG's 27GP850, it offers a very similar set of features, uses the same LG Nano IPS technology for the panel, and visually it's quite similar, too. However, as we've found many times in the past, using a panel from the same family doesn't guarantee the same performance at a different size, so that will be something to explore. In addition, IPS technology offers 178° wide viewing angles which prevent shifts in brightness, contrast, gamma and color when looking at the screen at skewed angles.

The real benefit of this sRGB emulation mode comes in its colour accuracy for working with SDR / sRGB content. You can see on the left that the colour gamut now very closely matches the sRGB reference and we have a 98.8% absolute coverage. There is some very minor over-coverage in blue shades (103.0% relative coverage) but nothing major at all. With the colour space now nicely matching sRGB the accuracy of sRGB colours is obviously massively improved and we see an average dE of only 1.6 which is good. This sRGB mode offers a reliable and accurate setup overall and is certainly usable. Calibration The LG 32GP850 is an excellent gaming monitor! Its big 32″ screen with 1440p resolution and gorgeous colors provides an immersive viewing experience, while the rapid 1ms GtG response time speed, 180Hz, and VRR ensure smooth performance. Specifications Screen Size Size class of the display as declared by the manufacturer. Often this is the rounded value of the actual size of the diagonal in inches. Because these monitors use nano IPS technology with slow red phosphor decay, some red fringing/ghosting is noticeable when MBR is enabled. However, depending on the game, you still might find it useful. The strong all round performance from the IPS panel produced a very good picture quality with the ability to work with the native wide gamut if you like the boosted colours or are using relevant content, while also being able to use the decent sRGB emulation mode if you’d rather. Contrast ratio was a little lower than some other modern IPS panels and remains a limitation of LG.Display’s recent Nano IPS generation it seems. It wasn’t terrible though, just could have been a bit higher. The main strength to LG's IPS gaming monitor line-up is the great balance between performance and image quality. The 32GP850 isn't the fastest monitor I've tested, and doesn't take IPS panels to new heights of response times, but performance is still really good and does so up to a decent 180Hz refresh rate. Other useful features include advanced image adjustment tools, including brightness, contrast, four gamma presets, sharpness, color temperature and 6-axis hue/saturation. Discover a richer, brighter, more detailed online experience. With an in-place switching IPS monitor, you can experience stunning images from any angle. Information about the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. A higher resolution allows the display of a more detailed and of higher quality image.

The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage.Information about the average amount of time, in which the pixels change from one color to another. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. As the refresh rate lowered, the response time G2G remained basically the same, but the overshoot started to creep up as a result. On Native G-sync module screens the included variable overdrive technology is used to tone down the overdrive, reducing G2G response times a little, but helping to avoid overshoot problems. Since that hardware module is not used here, the G2G remains consistent, but overshoot starts to creep up. This only really started to become noticeable at the lower end of the refresh rate range and especially around 60Hz. The ‘Fast’ mode was a bit too aggressive here and you started to get some more noticeable pale artefacts and trails appearing on content. When putting the 32GP850 results up against the Gigabyte M32Q with their Aim Stabilizer feature, and the Asus PG329Q with their ELMB feature, the Asus monitor is the clear winner. Both the 32GP850 and M32Q have red fringing - despite the M32Q using a different Innolux panel - while the PG329Q does not. The image clarity you get with the Asus monitor is also the best of these three options. Of course, with LG's initial approach to the 32GP850 review I was very curious to see whether this product is actually flawed in some way, and whether the review guidelines were intended to hide these flaws. It's certainly a suspicious situation, so I've been extra thorough with this review in an attempt to find any problems. Work more efficiently with LG's Office computer monitors that are ultra-clear and wide, offering true color contrast and detail at any angle. Note that HDMI 2.0 is limited to 144Hz at 2560×1440, while DisplayPort 1.4 allows for 180Hz at 2560×1440 with 10-bit color depth. Finally, if you don’t mind screens with a steep 1000R curvature, consider the 32″ Neo G7 and Neo G6 (same as the G7 variants but with built-in Tizen OS) models.Overall, the LG 32GP850 is a pretty good monitor. It succeeds at taking what the 27GP850 provides and expanding that up to a larger 32-inch panel size, bringing with it the strengths and weaknesses of LG's Nano IPS panel technology. While performance isn't identical between the two sizes, it's similar enough to not have a significant impact on your buying decision. Just get whichever size you prefer. However, due to the bigger screen size, you’ll be sitting a bit further away from it, so individual pixels won’t be as noticeable as they are on 24″ 1080p displays. The market is seeing a real push in this space for 32” 1440p displays and they are winning us over we have to say. The text and font size are still perfectly comfortable to use and sharp even at this larger screen size for general and office uses, and certainly no issue for gaming and multimedia.

The storage humidity shows the lower and upper humidity limit, which ensures safe storage of the display. Storing it outside these limits might damage the display. The 32GP850 fares much better in average performance across the refresh range, in this case using the Fast mode which we recommended earlier. The 32GP850 is again slower than the 27GP850 and doesn't have quite as well optimized overdrive, but is competitive with other models to some degree. For example, it's faster than the Gigabyte M32Q though with higher overshoot, as the M32Q can't be pushed into a higher overdrive setting for variable refresh gaming without exceeding our tolerances for overshoot.
