About this deal

This is actually pretty easy, although I didn’t need to do it. Don’t worry if you find you do need to, you won’t hurt anything in discovering this. If these steps don’t work, just progress to the last section, ‘Burn a new bootloader using the Usbasp’. Preliminaries An Anet A8 fan duct cools your prints. The original duct fan which arrives with the A8 is not that good. As a matter of fact, replacing the Anet A8 fan is first things most owners do. I found semi-circular fan duct to work the best Go to the communications tab. (In the Machine control on Simplify) The place where you can send Gcode commands. Burning the bootloader to an Arduino always erases the flash memory. Once the bootloader has been burned using a programmer the programmer should be disconnected and firmware uploaded using the serial-over-USB connection.

According to the Anet community, you should upgrade to e3D V6 hotend, once you mastered other things. It takes a little time, but if you really want to get serious with your printing quality, replacing existing A8 hotend, with high-quality e3D V6 makes a huge difference in printing quality and speed as well as the versatility of materials you can use. e3D V6 is not a necessary upgrade. It’s considered an advanced upgrade which further improves printing quality, speed and expands variety materials you can print with. Here, it is pertinent to note that A8 users, who are interested in printing with different materials that require very high temperatures, will need to tweak this kit a bit. If you are an ardent DIY fan, the Titan extruder would be the very best place to start customizing your kit.

I tried open software Marlin but got an Arduino (I used new Windows version 1.8.10) library error, which stopped my upgrading effort. But main thing is that now there is a second working mainboard just in case the installed working board quits in the future, and using this extra board to test with is very handy. Select the appropriate board from the Tools->Boards menu - either Anet V1.0 or Anet V1.0 (Optiboot)

As far as working is concerned, we would say that it is best to use this as a precision extruder. If you want precise designs then this will yield some really good results. With A3d every other extruder will work, but since you have already got the printer for cheap, it is worth investing in this extruder to get the best value to performance factor. If you don’t want to compromise on the performance, then this is a recommended choice. Anet A8 Belt Upgrade 3D Printing GT2 Timing Belt However, most of them leave open-ended questions around ‘does this work with the 1.7 revision of the board?’, or ‘ is this Github still maintained in 2020?’ In the long run, it substantially improves filament grip for better prints. The lightweight nature of this extrude comes in handy in other cases as well. In fact, it also provides substantially more torque as well as a higher resolution to the overall quality of your print.

The most common use of the MOSFET with the Anet A8 3D printer is to regulate the high workload that the heated bed places upon the mainboard. The high current of the hotbed can lead to stress for the mainboard connectors and increases the possibility of a fire hazard or hardware malfunction. We are all aware of the fact that acrylic frame of the A8 is not the most firm nor most stable one. There are few modifications you can do to improve the stability and reduce vibrations with printed parts. The connections are very stable yet very concise and easy to use. The whole design makes it easy to organize your wiring making your work easier and more efficient. This board uses the stepper motor drive which is a dual motor interface for the z-axis. The subdivision stepper is the A4988 16 subdivision stepper dual drive. It has a 3 way PDM output that transfers high current through one line, 3-way current, and the 2-way small current through the other two lines. This also eliminates the possibility of overheating during heavy operations. That is why they are also known to increase the efficiency of printing and longevity of the components as well. 3d printers are always at a risk of catching fire due to overheating. The MOSFET upgrade ensures that you don’t end up with a fire extinguisher in your hand while you just wanted to make a toy car model. The MOSFET upgrade also ensures that your motors are being provided with accurate voltages. This is probably the most common use of the MOSFET. It allows the voltages to be regulated and distributed evenly on the mainboard effectively reducing the chance of any potential hazard. Mosfet helps to determine the conductivity of any device through its voltage. Since this is extremely useful in amplification of voltages, 3d printers use them to fill the pool with high voltage supply to the hot ends. As this printer is a cheap one, it ends up struggling when it comes to high voltage regulation simply because the MOSFET is not rated high enough to deal with high voltages and currents that is essential for a 3d printer to work efficiently. Adding a MOSFET that has the correct rating and power to control high voltages with a heat sink on it helps a lot in increasing the performance of your printer.

If there is one part that I tested extensively, that has to be the belt. I tried three types of belts for A8 : The only downside of printing on a glass opposed to a yellow tape, is that the heat-bed takes a little bit more time to heat. Even though I did not experience any problems with my connectors on a motherboard burning or anything similar, some people have. This is one of the preventive measures to make electronics on your A8 more secure.I am still testing if the dust-cap really reduce vibrations. Once I am sure I’ll post more info on that. Feel free to leave a link, but it would be good if you can elaborate in which way particular upgrade helped you make better prints or secured your printer. In the list that follows, we have put together some of the essential upgrades from the upgrade collection of Anet that will give your printer an entirely new look and a performance that matches some of the high-end printers.
