About this deal

Finally, to keep gutters looking as good as new, wash them down a couple of times a year with a damp cloth and either soapy water or a proprietary PVC cleaner. Regularly maintained they will add a touch of class to your eaves! We also liked how easy they were to install. One side slides under the shingles while the other snaps onto the inner edge of the gutter and secures in place with self tapping metal screws. That said, we didn’t like their one-size-fits-all design. The guards, which can also fit 6-inch gutters, were very wide for our 5-inch gutters, forcing us to slide them so far under the shingles that it created a noticeable bump. We also didn’t like the fact the edge of the gutter is visible from the ground.

Some gutter guards, like reverse-curve guards, can worsen ice dams by trapping snow and ice inside the gutter. However, most gutter guards help prevent ice buildup by limiting the amount of snow that passes through into the gutter system. Q. How do you clean gutters without removing gutter guards? For further information and clarification of the legislation surrounding the return of goods, and associated costs, please refer to regulation 35 of The Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013. Stainless steel gutter guards are popular for homeowners looking for long-lasting protection against debris, rust and corrosion. Stainless steel guards are typically more expensive than other options, but that’s because they’re highly durable and resistant to all kinds of harsh weather and damage. They are typically used in constructing reverse-curve, micro-mesh and screen gutter guards. If you’re looking for an affordable and easy-to-install gutter guard, look no further than plastic options. Mostly found in the construction of reverse-curve and brush guards, plastic guards may not be as durable as metal options, but they still offer effective debris protection. However, the warranty for your gutter guard system can differ depending on your chosen installation method. If you choose to do it yourself, the manufacturer’s warranty on the product may vary. This is because proper installation is critical to the performance and longevity of gutter guards, and manufacturers may have specific requirements for professional installation to ensure warranty coverage.

The main reason homeowners install gutter guards is to reduce how often gutters need to be cleaned and maintained. With gutter guards installed, cleaning may go from three to four times a year to once a year or even once every other year. Protect from Water Damage, Mold and Mildew and Fire

Installing gutter guards doesn’t only save you money and time on gutter cleaning, it actually protects your home from water damage, mold, mildew and even fire. Clogged gutters can cause water to spill into your roof or pool at the base of your home, both of which can cause leaking. Water damage to your roof, or elsewhere in your house, will cause mold and mildew to grow inside your home which can be dangerous to your health. While gutter guards do help to keep out larger debris, the gutters still need to be cleaned. Follow these simple steps to clean the gutters without removing the gutter guards. Also know as the Felt Support Tray, this product is now widely used by roofing contractors along with replacement UPVC fascia installers at eaves level (as detailed in the image below). This brush gutter guard has a flexible wire core made of stainless steel that can bend around corners. The brush bristles, made of ultraviolet-resistant polypropylene, extend out about 4.5 inches from the core, allowing the entire gutter guard to fit comfortably into standard-size 5-inch gutters. It does take a heavy rain and it is only in the corners by the outside wall where we have the water getting in. From the outside the roof looks in very good condition aside from the moss which has formed all along the edge (only on the Northern facing side of the house) and there are run marks on the fascia so that's what the guy said he'd made his judgement on. He did also suggest that the very top bit could do with repointing but as that's a less important job and money I tight, we're looking to have that done in the spring/summer. The felt underlay should be pulled tight to ensure there are no troughs that can retain any water. Ensure the felt finishes before the fascia, therefore it is not exposed to the elements, and is not subject to decay. PVC covers are an incredibly economical way to protect your gutter from clogging. Because these guards simply snap to fit on almost all styles of gutter, the products are easy for a DIY-er to use. However, with affordability comes a reduction in quality—PVC gutter covers do not last long, especially in harsher environments where branches or hail may easily cause damage. Foam Inserts

The eaves protector or felt support tray is a low cost solution to dripping felt or for felt that as rotted in time, and can eliminate problems in later years. We recommend that when ever replacing fascia boards that the eaves protection system is put in place. Copper gutter guards are known for their durability and aesthetic appeal. Used in constructing micro-mesh and screen gutter guards, they develop a natural patina over time, which gives them a distinct and elegant look. Copper guards are resistant to rust and corrosion, making them a long-lasting option.

THE SOLUTION

The Raptor system proved itself to be a good option for DIY gutter guards, and we appreciated that it offers different installation methods, including installing directly across the gutter as well as under the roof shingles to accommodate different situations. However, we found the stainless steel material to be very difficult to cut, even with a good pair of snips—although that no doubt speaks to its durability. The stainless steel mesh caught everything that could be expected, and it’s also easily removable for gutter cleaning. Copper screen and micro-mesh gutter guards are highly resistant to rusting and corrosion. Typically more resilient (and more expensive) than any other type, copper gutter guards can also be hard to find, as few manufacturers produce them. LeafTek’s gutter guards are designed to fit inside the gutter instead of sliding under the shingles, making them an ideal choice for those worried about voiding their roof warranty with gutter guards. Each side of the aluminum guards have preset holes for attaching them to the gutter using metal screws. The visibility of gutter guards varies depending on their type and design. For instance, mesh guards installed on top of the gutters blend in with the gutters and have a low-profile appearance. Reverse curve guards, installed over the gutters, are relatively discreet but can be somewhat visible depending on their design and color. The Eaves Protection Board (EPS), or Felt Support Tray, has been designed to provide a long-term solution to the problems associated with eaves decay under the roof, including the degradation of felt and the secondary rotting of rafter timbers and roof structures.
