For Mandalorian actor Brendan Wayne, there’s a clear distinction between the helmet being on or off. “When it’s Din Djarin [the character’s actual name], that means the helmet’s off,” he says. “I’m never gonna be that guy. I’m this other part.” He was also impressed by how first-time Star Wars director Lee Isaac Chung was able to go from working on independent films to a bigger-budget production like The Mandalorian:

And then I tried it on and somehow it fit, even though it was initially, I think, created for somebody a different size — six-foot-five, and I’m six feet. But I have a small head, so the helmet fit perfect. Then, as this process went on, they started taking pictures of me with a blue screen around me, and I thought, This is a lot for trying on an outfit for somebody. You never look down at your feet. You can only look so far to your right or so far to your left. You have to change how you move. Once you’re in a suit like that you become the character. There’s a lot of human movement he would never do.”

Well, you know, hopefully I gave him as much of a break as he possibly needed, because he was working on, I think, three things at the time. I can’t remember. But I saw him frequently. The funny thing is, I think it was harder for him, because they really wanted a certain walk that came natural to me. And so Pedro had to ask me certain questions, because I guess they would say, “Talk to Brendan and see what he says.” Almost all of [the doubles], they had to come watch me walk — I think there were four at the end of it. And I did a lot of work to be able to walk like I did in the sand and not look like a drunk sailor.The Mandalorian is also happy to play around with the eccentricities of Star Wars itself. Still on Nevarro, Mando employs some Anzellans, a race of 4in-high mechanics, to attempt to fix his obliterated old droid friend IG-11. Amid the warm creature cuteness of the Anzellans and Grogu’s attempt to hug them (“No, Grogu! Not a pet!”), a neat gag develops about the miraculous ability Star Wars characters have to converse with aliens: the advice of chief grease monkey Babu Frik, who provided comic relief in 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker when resistance fighters struggled to understand him, morphs from impenetrable gabble to broken English, which the officious Karga keeps translating long after an irritated Mando has learned to understand it. Din has exhibited zero interest in intergalactic politics, so we're curious to see if (and how) he gets pulled into the greater Mandalorian saga. As for Grogu, his Force powers could come in very handy in a fight, as we've seen already. So they try to give you something to different work with in [this show], and this season was no exception, and you’ll see it in the next episode. You’re gonna see something very different than you’ve seen in its presentation, and so it’s amazing.”

I remember at one point I thought to myself, Are you a high-maintenance asshole right now, telling everybody how wrong their stuff is? What on God’s green earth is compelling you to keep talking? But I kept doing it, and they were great about it. I felt like we were working together. I felt like I was a part of the process, where you don’t usually get that. Recently, Wen told Digital Spy that she's unsure of if she will be in The Mandalorian season 3, stating "We're so secretive about everything, right? We don't call the shows, the shows. The contracts are always under different names. The show is under different names."Two weeks later, I was taking my older daughter to college and I get a call saying, “Hey, can you come down and do a screen test?” And all I get is that it’s for Jon Favreau. And, okay, Jon —I trust Jon. I ask, “Do I get a script?” And they say, “They just want to see you move around.” It was a dream to work on this because I was able to live what brought me to acting every day,” he said. “I got to get on a landspeeder; I got to have my own Razor Crest. To be part of the mythology that you grew up with that was integral to you as a kid — it was really cool.”
