About this deal

The orange armour was basecoated with two thin coats of old Macharius Solar Orange [ Jokaero Orange]. This will save you some layers of Lava Orange later. Vallejo Game Color Dark Fleshtone [ Doombull Brown] was painted directly into the recesses of the armour. Then, a small piece of blister sponge was ripped off, dabbed into paint and carefully “stamped” on the armour to add a chipped armour effect – this technique is called sponge weathering. Wipe any excess paint and don’t overdo the effect. It’s a flexible paint that may be used as a base coat for these armies, giving them a realistic and aged appearance by acting as a great canvas for layering, highlighting, and shading. You’ll see a number of techniques suggested as you begin to practice and paint with your airbrush. Generally they’ll focus on dual-action brushes like the Patriot 105 recommended earlier. I recently switched from one technique to another, I’ll explain both below and provide video links too. Technique One:

http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/en_US/media/e588d28183cec31ffd6dcee6d3718fc3.cms/equivalencias-rev05.pdfFirst. Paint the copper parts copper. I used VMC Hammered Copper because I love that color and use it at every opportunity. Then, clean your brush off on a paper towel, and feather out the oil paint to fade into the grimy edges.

As the Skaven capital city, Skavenblight benefits from being the largest trade hub in the Under-Empire, where hundreds upon hundreds of merchants, peddlers, and trade barges enter the city annually to sell their wares and goods, hailing from the multitude of clans that populate the vast Under-Empire. [4a]Skavenblight Dinge: Skavenblight Dinge is an excellent grey. It is dark and is ever so slightly brownish, making it perfect for leather. It also thins well and can go on slightly transparent. A second stage of shading was applied with P3 Bastion Grey [ Stormvermin Fur should be close]. You might need to get out the Trollblood Highlight again to smooth the transition. Varnish the windows to “save” your work! Gloss varnish is preferable because it’s easier to wipe off future mistakes with a damp brush and water. We’ve taken a look at abrasion and staining explicitly, and incorporated some elements of conditioning through the fading and layers of scratches. Burnishing isn’t something you’ll be using often on 40k models. Most places that are constantly rubbing against soft surfaces, such the side of a leather bag pressed against the body, are hidden because they’re pressed up against those soft surfaces. Old leather shoes can also become burnished on the toe and heel from years of polishing. However, you won’t see this often on soldiers. Light leather, where it will be most visible, isn’t popular for military footwear as it shows stains easily and is harder to maintain. The toes and heels of combat boots are also constantly getting beaten up, so abrasion will typically wipe out any burnishing that appears. That said, if you’re painting a rogue trader, high commander, or other imperial noble, you might want to incorporate burnishing, as it can be quite pretty. Because of how pretty it can be, it’s often emulated using dyes on dress shoes, rather than waiting for years of wear and polishing to do their magic. You can highlight the rims conventionally (basecoating with Dawnstone and highlighting with Administratum Grey) or simply drybrush the whole tire with Dawnstone and call it a day.

Then I did the same with VMA Burnt Umber. I concentrated this a little on the undersides of ledges and on the bottoms of walls and buildings where more dirt would accumulate, letting this color do triple duty as stone color, dirt, and shading. Add a little Cadian Fleshtone to the The Fang and layer up, leaving the darker color in the recesses Then, using watered down VMC Turqoise I applied a splotchy, uneven wash/glaze. Play around with this. Apply too much and wipe some off with your finger or blot it up with the corner of a paper towel. It takes some fiddling to get things worked to a point that looks good. The ground shook, causing the great bell in the temple to the Horned Rat above to ring. A great rift began to appear in the earth and it seemed the Skaven's mad plan would work. But it was not to be. The machine failed and with a thundering flash it split open, releasing all the pent up energy, tearing through the tunnels and ripping hundreds of Skaven into furry gobbets as it shattered Skavenblight. [9a] Skin: VGC Pale Flesh washed with Guilliman Flesh thinned with Lahmian Medium, extreme highlights with VMC Pale Sand (Less successful on this old metal model than on newer plastics)Light Brown(Pants, Weapon Wraps, Bracer): The pants are a base of Gorthor Brown, with scratches and highlights added with a mix of Gorthor Brown and Jokaero Orange. The entire surface was then washed with Agrax Earthshade, and more scratches were layered on with the mix, and finally pure Jokaero Orange. The weapon wraps and bracer are the same recipe. However, with the straps across the bracer, instead of painting an entirely different color, I just stopped after the Agrax Earthshade wash, and didn’t add any further Jokaero Orange, to keep them slightly distinct fromt he leather surrounding his forearm. Paint the dumpster logo white and wash with Space Wolves Grey. Re-paint the mascot white and wash with Iyanden Yellow. Verminhall, which sits in the heart of the Horned Rat's divine Realm of Ruin in the Realm of Chaos, is the otherworldly counterpart to the Shattered Tower. It is used as the meeting place of the group of Exalted Verminlord Daemons of the Horned Rat who comprise the Shadow Council of Thirteen. Small dots of Warpaints Gun Metal [ Leadbelcher] were applied at the larger chinks in the armour. Then, the fur was basecoated with old Scorched Brown [ Rhinox Hide], and the metal with Gun Metal [ Leadbelcher]. Skavenblight is believed to have been founded around -1600 IC, after the fall of the former Human city of Tylos. [9a] Disaster at Skavenblight [ ]

Though all the clans have at least a certain amount of foothold or influence in the great city, there is no denying that out of all the clans that make up the Under-Empire, those who dominate a grander part of the city are each held by one of the four Great Clans. Clan Skryre and Clan Moulder have the most economic influence in the city, with their personal clan districts lively at all hours as they trade their various goods and services to any warlord with enough warp-tokens to pay. [1a]Next, I began applying multiple layers of dry-brushing – starting with a very grey and adding in some white to lighten the tone with successive coats. The quarter of Clan Moulder is rich in commerce. In this quarter Hell-Pit Abominations created by the fervid and distorted minds of their Clan Moulder masters are sold to those who offer the highest bid. [1a] Clan Pestilence District [ ]
